One of my earliest memories is of attending a party down the street from my parents' house. It was in the house with the lions on either side of the steps, and I wore a black dress with plaid ribbons. I was very young, so I really only remember lots of adults' legs, and two large rooms, one of which had a lot of food on a big table spread with a tablecloth - appetizers, including olives (which I loved, and recall wanting very much).

And I don't recall if this was the same day, but it's associated in my memory, probably because of the location: I remember walking down the street with my mother, and saying "Hello, sister" to the nuns who passed us by on the sidewalk; they used to live down the street from us, but no longer. They would at times walk around in full habit - very strange, in this day & age!
