Hey -- just to make sure you'll see my response to your question re: Sheep by Pink Floyd on my response to this prompt:
*************************Yay cats! The song is "Sheep" from PF's album Animals released in 1977. The thing you gotta know about it is that Roger Waters wrote it -- unfortunately b/c of a brutal childhood plus never knowing his father (who died in WW2), he has had a life-long struggle with hate & darkness toward God in his heart. That said, he's a brilliant songwriter and his ability to crystalize his pain in song is unparalleled. The song Sheep tells the story of the sheep rising up to kill the dog (spell "dog" backwards ... mmh?) who has shepherded them. During the middle of the song you'll find a rewritten version of the Psalm 23 in barely audible synthesized vocorder-style; it's been a while since I've listened to it so I might've gotten the lyrics a bit wrong, but it's something like this:
Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away,Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.You better watch out, there may be dogs about!Looking over the River Jordan I have seenThat things are not what they seem.
What do you get for pretending the danger's not real?Meek and obedient you follow the leader,Down well-bloody corridors into a valley of steel. What a surprise! A terminal shock in your eyes. Now things are really what they seem; No, this is not a bad dream!
The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want He makes me down to lie Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by With bright knives He releaseth my soul He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places He converteth me to lamb cutlets For lo, He hath great power And great hunger When cometh the day we lowly ones Through quiet reflection and great dedication Master the art of karate Lo, we shall rise up And then we'll make the bastard's eyes water.
Bleating and baah-ing we fell on his neck with a scream.Wave upon wave of demented avengersMarch cheerfully out of obscurity into his dreams.Have you heard the good news? The dog is dead! You'd better stay home and do as you're told;Get out of our road if you want to grow old.
