- Driving from Boardman OR to Hood River OR is freaky!

It is a gorgeous drive down I-84 toward Portland from eastern Oregon. But somewhere in there is a section of freeway where the road drops like a stone from high elevation into a much lower altitude. During that drop, there are multiple switchbacks, totally blind curves, and variable speed-limit signs. The one time I drove it, there had been snow and the road was icy; in addition to that there was ice-fog which is exactly what it sounds like. The speed limit on the freeway had been lowered to FIFTEEN MILES PER HOUR and apparently the truckers were fed up with speeding drivers so they blocked both westbound lanes and forced everyone to slow the f'ck down. The state had coated the road with sand and rocks, so the road wasn't undriveable per se, but even *I* felt unsafe driving more than 20 miles per hour and I'm known for being a lead-foot.
Being stuck in such a crazy-ass backup, driving below 25 miles per hour, on a barely-lit freeway in the dark at approx 1AM, was a white-knuckle experience that I will never forget.
