I’m not saying that I didn’t believe in baby fever – the longing to have a child. I just didn’t think it could be all consuming. I didn’t think it could take up every thought. I didn’t think that every baby that I saw, every pregnant person, would ignite such feelings of sadness and longing. I thought I could be immune. I thought I could will myself to not want a child – I was wrong.
