I took my sister to LasVegas for her 21st birthday. I knew it was going to be an extravagant experience, but I needed something short of a miracle to bond with the sister I don't always see eye to eye with.

Our dad helped set the mood, tickets to see Phantom on the Opera. Best seats in the house. We had never felt so special or bonded over such a beautiful range of emotions as we watched our favorite musical dance at our finger tips.

When the show was over, I gave my sister two options. Option 1: go back to the hotel room, collect our friends and have dinner as a group to start our evening of debauchery. Option 2: Go to a nice dinner, the two of us and continue our sister bonding time for a bit longer. I was sure she would pick option 1.

To my surprise, we found ourselves at a swanky restaurant sipping martinis and sharing a ahi poki appetizer. Our conversation wasn't particularly birthday appropriate, but it was something we each needed to do. By the time our second round of Drinks came (on the house) we were well into the sisterly connection we needed.

Dinner was lovely, desert was fantastic and the bill was eye bulging. But we couldn't be bothered with money, we walked out of that restaurant with a whole new type of feelings toward each other; respect and acceptance. .
