American Flag on the Fourth of July

If you ask me about American history or government and politics, I will most likely have to Google the answer. That's how long it's been since I was in 8th grade or even high school for that matter. However, I will always remember fondly Mr. Huntress, who, to me, was just the best teacher ever. He made my junior high experience a little bit better, which was hard to do for a slightly overweight, crazy-haired young girl. He was like a member of my family for a while, having coached the football team that my brother played on, and I always loved those Monday nights when he would come over with his sub from Muntsy's and visit a while with our family while he waited to go back to school. Mr. Huntress...you were the best!

    • My small, safe world.
      • The question is: What place seemed much smaller after coming back to visit again? The answer is: my world.

        Pencils

This one is so easy for me, and I am so excited to write it!! Growing up in the small town of Lynnfield, MA, I lived on a road that had it's own paved path leading to the elementary school that I attended. Huckleberry Hill School. Just typing the name makes me happy. I loved that school with all of my heart. I have memories of sitting in my favorite spots, like in the hallway outside of the media center where the sun streamed through a floor to ceiling window. I would sit there and read during our library hour, bathing in the warm sunshine. I remember vividly standing in front of the class reciting the continents as fast as I could in 4th grade- and winning the contest for being the fastest! I remember the reading nook of my 3rd grade classroom, and how I used to prop myself up on the vent of the heater on cold days to keep warm. Lastly, I remember the words "Walkers are dismissed." and throwing my chair up on top of my desk only to run outside and bound down the hill to my road and home again. My world seemed big but truth is...it was small and safe. Needless to say, when I visited Huckleberry Hill about 20 years ago, I felt like a monster trying to sit in those tiny chairs. I could not fit my legs under the desk! I guess it never was a big place, but in my heart and mind it was; and it always will be!

    • A Lesson I Wish I Had Learned Earlier
      • facebook like button

I wish I had learned to like myself earlier in life. I have worked with a lot of adolescent girls and I try to help them figure out exactly why they are they way they are. I think this is the key to learning about how you react to situations in life you find yourself in. If you know yourself, you can begin to really like yourself....and if you really like yourself...well, that is one of the keys to true happiness.

    • Movies Worth Watching Multiple Times
      • Hammer365: 221/144 We Are Marshall

Definitely "We are Marshall." So good. I like to watch "29th Street" sometimes because it is a little bit of a hidden gem. Then there is always "Wedding Crashers" and "Elf" for a good thriller. "Michael Clayton" is a goodie too. One more....."The Bad News Bears (1976)" CLASSIC!
