      • A double shot is what I need!

The best news I could receive right now, and indeed hope to receive in the next 6 weeks, is two-fold.

One, I long, pray, hope and wish to hear from my doctors that the tumor they radiated last summer has shrunk away to nothing! I'v been dealing with this skull base tumor for 5 years and I really want it to go away so I can get on with my life.

Second, I hope to find a job that fits my needs and my family. I've been out of work since November 2009 and doing all this medical stuff. While the break has been wonderful, it's time for me to go back to work and I'm just not sure what I'll do. But finding, applying and hearing the "you're hired!" would just be stellar after hearing "you're cured!"

So I need a double shot, but I think I'd take "cured" over "hired" if I could only have one.

    • Summer Beverage
      • It wouldn't be summer with out it!

My favorite summer drink has to be fresh, homemade lemonade. Not too sweet, and not too tart, with fizz or without, I love it. It goes with everything I like. There are several restaurants that do a great lemonade, one of the is Medici in Chicago.

    • Olfactory Memory-remembering with the nose
      • Coincidence?

I was out walking yesterday evening. Sauntering past the edge of the woods, I caught a whiff that unleashed a memory. Flashing back years to a summer adventure in the mountains. Dim beneath the canopy of trees. Cool dampness of the woodland floor meeting a quiet, gentle creek. But the smell that captures me is the trees. How they, in spring, awaken and their very awareness of the season puts out a certain fragrance. A primordial fragrance of life brewing, firm and steady, age to age, ancient and new all in the same place. That is the scent that stirred my mind through my nose, just yesterday evening.

Those woods are far from me now, though I try to visit when I can; even if it's just through my mind's eye.

    • What's black & orange and nasty inside?
      • Don't even show it to me, I might just gag on the spot!

I would definitely give up the evil that is known as 'peanut butter taffy'. My mom bought it every year to give out at Halloween. I think she bought it because she knew we all hated it and if we found it before Halloween night we wouldn't dare eat it. Their orange and black wax paper wrappers brought forth cries of disappointment and horror in our household.

It makes me wonder if there were kids who avoided our house because of the cursed stuff.

On the other hand, you can get almost all the same treats and flavors at Easter now so I wouldn't have to give up all the other Halloween flavors that are tasty. Then of course, I do love the spicy Brach jellybeans. You know, the classic ones that taste like peppermint, spearmint, clove, licorice (I hear some of you making yucky noises, cut it out!). And then there are Jelly Belly jelly beans for those of discerning taste. (But I DO NOT like the Smuckers or the Jolly Rancher or Starburst jellybeans....they put WAY TOO MUCH flavor concentrate in those!)

And, of course, there are the chocolate bunnies. The good kind, like Lindt. Don't bring me any of that Palmer or Frankie chalk-olate. Nastiness!

And I could do with a Cadbury cream or caramel egg. Just leave out those elongated, hard shell candy coated things. You know the ones I'm talking about. Pastel, individually wrapped, bite through like a sugar cube. Gives me the shivers just thinking about them!

And thankfully, as I alluded to above, most of the confectioners are making "fun size" packs of the same candies we enjoy at Halloween. Think m&m's, kit-kats, snickers, etc. You can get just about all of them for both now. Even Peeps come in versions for other holidays!
