I actually started listening to music on 78 rpm records when I was a toddler. Mom liked playing a lot of Josh White. I wish I had those records now!

She was my first grade teacher. At that time my ambition in life was to be a teacher when I grew up, so I would teach imaginary classes at home. She treated me as a colleague, and we would discuss ideas and teaching techniques for me to use with my imaginary students.
