My memory of a house that stands out is my nanny and grand-dad's Boutiliers' house in Beaverbank, Nova Scotia, Canada
-where there was a cherry tree in the back yard. Visiting nanny was always spectacular. There were so many people always either in the house or dropping in. There was excitement. Food cooking, the excitement of life.
I really loved sweets and yes I guess I still do. lol

"Nanny, will you bake me a cherry pie?" Nanny boo boo said, "Just go out and pick some cherries off the tree and I will." She usually had her hands covered with flour. I wasn't long out picking cherries and smelling the cherry pie baking.

I grew up in Beaverbank Nova Scotia, Canada. My grand-parents were one of the first settlers in the area.
My grand-father worked with CN, my grand-mother (nanny boo boo) worked as a teacher when she wasn't having children. They also had a farm. During the depression, my grand-parents feed the community.
I'm proud of my grand-parents and the contributions they made to the educational community, athletic and sports community................and just to the community overall....like I said I loved those cherry pies that my grand-mother used to bake.

    • Five Things I'm Thankful For
      • Thankful for ....

        Life

I am thankful for so many things!
        1. My daughter - she's amazing, had to put up with me, an entrepreneur, with all the challenges and alternative ways. She works so hard in school and in life.
        2. Then there are the people I have met throughout my life - my mentors, people who have given me strength and hope and perseverance.
        3. Next, I would say I am very thankful for children - they are open to the world and excited about life....
        4. Thankful for Canada and the opportunities we all have as Canadians.
        5. Entrepreneurs - thankful for their perseverance, strength, innovation and how they help change the world.

    • A Difficult Decision
      • Making a difference??

One of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make was to take a stand and use my voice. As an advocate for women in business I have had to come right out and say there still is an "old boy's club" particularly in financing. A women inquiring about a business loan in 2002 was told to "Get a husband" - this attitude still exists but I am making changes and standing up and creating awareness for this!

I'm happy about this as it gives others the courage to speak out and have a voice. Changes will be made as voices are heard - we all know this! Look at the international changes happening worldwide!

I continue to advocate for entrepreneurs, particularly women worldwide and hope others will find their voice!

    • My Sense of Humor
      • Laughing about Kid Gloves & Having a Baby

        kid gloves

I love to laugh - after all it is the best medicine. I laugh all the time because I used to take life too seriously. Now, I realise that life is just a journey and obstacles become challenges that force me to find solutions! Humor to me is found everywhere and I laugh at my mistakes, my challenges after I find solutions and find laughter lifts me up when I need it.
I recall when I was at university and our assignment was to make a presentation that was funny. Now, I can not tell jokes and have only remembered one my whole life. lol (laugh out loud)|
So, I thought and thought - okay what do people find funny? People find real life stories funny. So, I got to work and presented a presentation that had people in my class almost falling off their chairs.

I did my presentation on life - how I was treated with kid gloves when I was pregnant and how things changed into so many challenges when I had my wonderful daughter. I spoke about the lack of sleep I got, how she woke up every four hours. How there was nobody there to treat me with kid gloves once she was born. How I woke up one nite to find her playing with her dolls at 4am in the morning. Following the presentation, I was a single mother at school, most of the students were young - they told me they would think twice before they had a child to make sure they were ready for it! This worked as it was my message...and it was funny! Life can be funny and laughter makes it work for me.
