I moved to Allentown from a small town in the Pocono Mountains about five and a half years ago. I was closer to work, closer to my friends, and more importantly, I was out of my parent's house. I don't live in a big place, it's a 900-sq foot townhouse at the eastern end of the city. It's no palace, but I've made it my own. I'm five minutes from center city Allentown, and ten minutes from downtown Bethlehem. There's lots of shops, restaurants, and movie theaters all around. It's impossible to be bored in this area.

I love my house, but I'd like living in it even more if I wasn't on the outskirts of the quasi-ghetto. Too many Jerry-Springer worthy fights on the street, too many drunken parties until 3 am on Saturdays, my car's been broken into at least once, and (bonus!) you never know when the neighbors are going to feel like having an impromptu fireworks show. Fun!

I'm lucky enough to live on a quiet street in the neighborhood, and people leave me alone for the most part, but sometimes? Sometimes I miss my old quiet life in the country.

My favorite room in my house is my kitchen/dining room. It's a good size for a 900-sq ft. home, and I've got it packed with appliances, utensils, pots, pans, and lots of fun cooking gadgets. I love to cook and bake, and am constantly learning new recipes and methods.

I enjoy having friends over and cooking for them; we watch TV or movies or even have a game night. My kitchen opens directly to the living room, so it's very easy to cook and carry on a conversation (the girls and I are always snarking about something) at the same time. Not to mention it's great for me to keep an ear on the TV or my iTunes on the computer in the living room.

Maybe my next house will have my dream kitchen with a six burner stove, butcher block counter tops, and more cupboards than you can shake a stick at, but for now, the kitchen I have works just fine.

It's not *that* bizarre, but it kinda came out of nowhere...I got a copy of An Officer and A Gentleman on DVD from my mom last year. I've never seen the movie to have an opinion on it, and my mom (bless her) thought I loved it. Probably the only time she struck out on gift giving.
