    • If I Could Be a Professional Critic
      • If I had to choose to be one kind of critic, it would have to be a film critic. I love books. I love to read and write; however, film would be my first choice

        .

I love movies. I like looking at how the film was put together: the writing, the editing, the acting, the continuity etc. It is more of an obsession than it probably should be.

Sometimes I think about how I would do it if it were my movie. It is really a creative thing for me sometimes. I could enjoy doing that full time, or even part time. Until then I will have to be content with doing this from my couch.

    • 2011 soundtrack
      • 2011 has been another year I had high hopes for...so far it hasn't quite paid off, but there is still a few months to go. I have been healing from losing mom, healing from my own trauma from the tornado, reclaiming my blog, learning who my real friends are, losing my dad and taking new and probably unwise risks.

It could still surprise me though.

    • Long Lines: What is worth the wait
      • I'm a reasonably patient person. However, I still cannot stand waiting in line for an unreasonable amount of time, Waiting twenty minutes in line at Best Buy *right* before Christmas is reasonable. Twenty minutes during most of the rest of the year not so much.

        Cedar Point - Sunset HDR

I once spent 4 hours at the BMV and I only left with 3/4 of what I was there to do. I'm not sure *why* my birth certificate that was perfectly fine to get through customs and to get a passport was "too dark" for the state of Indiana. It was though. Lines like that make me crazy. I had to wait over an hour to be prescreened. Then another hour for my test. I was bounced back to prescreening who finally put me in the queue to speak with someone. Why? It was drawn out, and frustrating.

There are a few things that are worth the horrendous lines:

        1) Getting on a cruise ship. Come on. You are going on a cruise. Yes, the check in line is long, and that laptop you *had* to bring is heavy, but it will be worth it.Soon you will be on board and things will be better. Rum drinks are just ahead. Hang in there

        2) Rides at Cedar Point.Cedar Point game plan: get there when they open. Go immediately to the ride that you want to ride *most.* Get in line while the line is still short (because everyone else is in the front of the park). Once you have that first ride in, do not bounce all over the park. It is a big loop. Pick a direction and follow the loop. You will save time and energy. Also: while packing your lunch for the day *sounds* like a good idea the picnic area is in the front of the park. You lose time and risk having to wait in longer lines if you have to keep running to the front of the park. You will still have to wait in line (and on busy days that will be well over an hour) for most rides, but aside from the Mean Streak and the Corkscrew (okay and Disaster Transport ) it is well worth the wait.

    • Not On Rex Manning Day
      • I love to quote "Empire Records." Despite it's cheesiness, there is just something about that movie that makes me smile.

I know I shouldn't love the movie as much as I do, but I do. I could blame it on the fact it came out when I was in high school. Instead, lets just call it my guilty pleasure.

This movie is awful, but I really would quote it more often if I knew other people knew the movie.

Maybe I love it because it is about a bunch of outcasts that somehow manage to save the day. Maybe it just the soundtrack. Who knows?

    • How to get it all done
      • Sometimes I would kill for more hours in a day. There is a lot on my plate these days, and I have to keep moving to keep on top of things.

        1) If you aren't a morning person, pick out your clothes the night before. Picking clothes in a half awake stupor can take forever, and be disastrous.

        2) Plan your errands carefully. If you have an appointment on one side of town, try and fit in other errands in the general area.

        3) Stay Focused.

        4) Make lists. It may seem OCD. Okay, it might be OCD, but I find it is a great way to keep focused and help me plan my day.

        5) When you have a random idea, write it down or make a note on your phone. *Right Now* might not be a good time to look into an idea. However, you don't want to forget about it and waste time later trying to remember your sudden epiphany.
