If I Could Be a Professional Critic

If I had to choose to be one kind of critic, it would have to be a film critic. I love books. I love to read and write; however, film would be my first choice

 .

I love movies. I like looking at how the film was put together: the writing, the editing, the acting, the continuity etc. It is more of an obsession than it probably should be.

Sometimes I think about how I would do it if it were my movie. It is really a creative thing for me sometimes. I could enjoy doing that full time, or even part time. Until then I will have to be content with doing this from my couch.

Long Lines: What is worth the wait

I'm a reasonably patient person. However, I still cannot stand waiting in line for an unreasonable amount of time, Waiting twenty minutes in line at Best Buy *right* before Christmas is reasonable. Twenty minutes during most of the rest of the year not so much.

I once spent 4 hours at the BMV and I only left with 3/4 of what I was there to do. I'm not sure *why* my birth certificate that was perfectly fine to get through customs and to get a passport was "too dark" for the state of Indiana. It was though. Lines like that make me crazy. I had to wait over an hour to be prescreened. Then another hour for my test. I was bounced back to prescreening who finally put me in the queue to speak with someone. Why? It was drawn out, and frustrating.

There are a few things that are worth the horrendous lines:

1) Getting on a cruise ship. Come on. You are going on a cruise. Yes, the check in line is long, and that laptop you *had* to bring is heavy, but it will be worth it.Soon you will be on board and things will be better. Rum drinks are just ahead. Hang in there

2) Rides at Cedar Point.Cedar Point game plan: get there when they open. Go immediately to the ride that you want to ride *most.* Get in line while the line is still short (because everyone else is in the front of the park). Once you have that first ride in, do not bounce all over the park. It is a big loop. Pick a direction and follow the loop. You will save time and energy. Also: while packing your lunch for the day *sounds* like a good idea the picnic area is in the front of the park. You lose time and risk having to wait in longer lines if you have to keep running to the front of the park. You will still have to wait in line (and on busy days that will be well over an hour) for most rides, but aside from the Mean Streak and the Corkscrew (okay and Disaster Transport ) it is well worth the wait.

Sometimes I would kill for more hours in a day. There is a lot on my plate these days, and I have to keep moving to keep on top of things.

 1) If you aren't a morning person, pick out your clothes the night before. Picking clothes in a half awake stupor can take forever, and be disastrous.

2) Plan your errands carefully. If you have an appointment on one side of town, try and fit in other errands in the general area.

3) Stay Focused.

4) Make lists. It may seem OCD. Okay, it might be OCD, but I find it is a great way to keep focused and help me plan my day.

5) When you have a random idea, write it down or make a note on your phone. *Right Now* might not be a good time to look into an idea. However, you don't want to forget about it and waste time later trying to remember your sudden epiphany.

My Hometown

I moved away almost a decade ago, and I never had any intention of going back. I will never live there again (despite owning a house there now), but my perception of the town has changed.

When I was growing up my hometown was a jail cell. I hated it there. I hated being an outsider. I hated that everyone knew my business. felt trapped and judged by those deemed popular. I longed for bigger and better things, and my parents were not surprised when I packed up and headed to Indianapolis the first chance I had.

I still do not want to live in my hometown. I have become accustomed to city life. I'm not a fan of having to drive 15-20 minutes away to get caffeine after 11:00. I like that the grocery store is open past 8. I like that going to the store without make up on won't be city wide gossip within the hour. Really, the list could go on and on.

However, there is one thing a small town offers that bigger communities just can't: community support. There is just something about the way the community steps up to take care of their own. I know when my family needed lifting up, the community was there. It was genuine caring and support that we really needed to survive.

Maybe I am old fashioned, but I do not hate Valentines Day. I am not big into celebrating, but it isn't all bad. Yes, I have been known to say "Why Valentines Day is bad" but it may not be in the way you think.

While I think it is crazy to spend tons of money in an elaborate display of love, I don't hate the day. I don't think it is a "Hallmark" Holiday. It may be over commercialized for my taste, but it works for some people and that is all that matters.

Hallmark didn't make this holiday. There was a pagan festival the Christian church wanted to do away with so they attached St. Valentine to one of the dates and made it more wholesome. Blame Rome for that, not Hallmark.

If you choose not to celebrate, that is your call. If you are single, you don't have to be bitter and miserable. Love comes in all kinds. While you may not have romantic love, you can always share your love with your friends and family.

10 Things That Make Me Happy

I'm pretty easy to please. If you treat me with respect, and care about me for who I really am we can be friends. These days I try to find at least little joy in everything, but there are some things that are guaranteed to make me happy.

Halloween
It is the best time of the year. I can be me, and it isn't frowned on. I love the costumes, make up and creativity.

Vacations
I love being able to get away and not worry about the 101 things I have swimming in my head. I like seeing new places, learning new things, and finding new favorite places to visit.

Diet Dr Pepper
It is my caffeine of choice. There is just something about it that lifts my spirits, and helps me function.

My family and friends being happy
Helping others enjoy life and knowing they are content makes me feel accomplished.

Scary Movies
I'm not sure why. Maybe it is because they are so easy to critique. I don't mean that in I watch them to be negative. I typically enjoy even the cheesiest gorefest, but I'm always also looking at the details.

Sleep
I suffer from insomnia. I go for weeks with little to no sleep. When I do sleep and sleep well, my world is a better place.

A Swedish Massage
I was in a car accident recently...ok my back was tense before that. Now it is killer. Sometimes the only way to make the pain go away is to work on those knots in my neck, shoulders and back. It helps with the back pain and I get less headaches.

getting new cameras
I wish I would have spent more time learning about photography. It is just a hobby, but I am pretty decent at it. I try not to be materialistic, but getting a new camera to play with just makes me giddy.

Hello Kitty
Yes...I am probably too old for this but I don't care. Love it and its cuteness.Judge me if you will. It is my young at heart thing. Everyone should have one of those.

Cute Shoes
This is a strange one. Really do love shoes, but I hate wearing them. I hate socks even more. Yes I'm just random like that.

Red Table
It is one of the last antiques I bought with my parents.

Base Rocker and matching chair
They were my mom's. She died in June and I they remind me of her.

Clover table
Same as number 2, but this one has a little bit more of an emotional attachment. Mom and I were looking for a similar table for me every time we went antiquing.

My Blanket
My mamaw made it for me when I was young. I finally grew into it when I grew up.

Dugan
He's a stuffed dog. A huge stuffed dog. I've had him since I was smaller than him!

Yes I celebrate Halloween. I celebrate big every year.

It may be an understatement to say I love Halloween. I am a huge Halloween fan. I love scary movies (even the cheesy ones), costumes, the decorations and pretty much everything that makes the holiday.

I'll admit I watch the cheesy horror movie marathons all month long. I decorate my office. I spend most of the month of September thinking up the perfect costume and how I am going to make it unique.

I used to be goth...deep down I probably still am one I just don't dress the part anymore. I'm already all about the bats, dark eye make up, fun clothes, and totally unsensable boots/shoes. This just gives me an excuse to wear it all.

My favorite part of the holiday is the creativity. I love challenging myself to come up an amazing costume, and I love seeing what others come up with. This year will be no different. The costume, shoes and accessories are bought. Now I am just trying to settle on the eye make up.

Each year I am sad when the day of the dead arrives and the Halloween season is over. I pack up the decorations and wait until I can start it all over again.

Today (Easter) I walked the mile to and fro the store to rationalize my consumption of one of these little guys.

Moonlight
I'm still mourning the loss of this show. I think had the writer's strike not happened this show may ave survived at least one more season.

Twin Peaks
Um...it is Twin Peaks...dark and twisted...need I say more

Poltergiest the Legacy
It takes place in San Francisco...and it i generally fun to watch. Although I have come to the conclusion I only really like Alex and Nick and sometimes Kat. Rachel is annoying, Derek is pretentious, and don't even get me started on Kristen. All are fine actors, but the characters bug me.

One would thing shopping the day after Christmas would be a nightmare, but Best Buy really surprised me. I was ready for a long and painful afternoon. Instead it took less than an hour, and quite pleasant.

My mother bought me a camera I already own for Christmas. I wanted to return it and put that money towards a new laptop. The mother board on my old laptop had dies, and I was making due with my netbook. I was very happy to have something to fall back on, but I needed a regular laptop pretty soon.

I had been looking at a particular laptop since Thanksgiving, but the web site said none of the Toledo stores had it in stock. I wanted to look any way. I knew the return line may be scary and I may not find what I wanted, but I was at least ready to look.

I arrived at the Best Buy, and there was a huge line for check out, but the returns line was pretty short. They were moving people through pretty quickly. My longest hold up was a woman trying to return an item that had been mailed from a family member without a receipt. Even with that I was done in less than 15 minutes. The returns staff was pretty quick and professional.

I went back to the laptops and I found the one I was looking for. However, the price tag was gone. This usually means it is out of stock. Almost immediately a man appeared and offered to look in the back for me. There was one left. He set it up for me and even put me in the Geek Squad line for check out instead of the much longer cashier line.

Even the Geek Squad employee was very kind about taking my two different payment methods. This store put a little bit of my faith back in Best Buy. An employee at the store in Indianapolis (Castelon) had me spent over $100 on an adapter that fried my old laptop's battery, and 2 cords that did not do what I needed.I have bought a camera and my netbook at the Westfield store, but I have avoided help from the employees. Now I may give them another chance.

I only wanted *a* cockatiel, but of course when I went to pick up Beaker, things changed. Their living conditions were horrible, and there was only one other cockatiel left. I almost had to adopt Batty.

A few months later, someone left their cockatiel and parakeet behind in their apartment, Yes they moved and abandoned their poor animals. Next thing I know, I've adopted them (Popcorn and Skye) too. I have sadly adopted and lost 2 female parakeets, and my one store bought is a female parakeet was bought to be Skye's buddy. Abby was just supposed to be a foster. I was going to rehab her so her owner could rehome her, but then the owner went AWOL and Beaker fell in love with her. After Beaker died I was distraught and adopted Weddnesday. Finally we have Charlie. I went to pick up a cage from his former owner only to discover he came with the cage.

Now I have to say no. We are out of room!
