- My Dream House
-
My dream home might never exist anywhere but in my imagination, however, I love it all the same.
My dream home would be located in a series of gently rolling green hills, with some flat pastureland, too. There would be a small forest of trees to walk through on a warm day and a softly singing brook or, perhaps a small river, to sit beside, fish in, or swim in in the summer. The weather would have the usual seasons but the summer would never be so hot you couldn't bear to go outside and the winter, while cold (and would snow every few years) would be bearable. There would be enough rain to keep the grass green all year around.
The house itself would be 2-storey, made of wood, with a tin roof so that you can hear the rain. Approaching from the front, you would see a beautifully planned garden full of colour and flowers. The front door would be nestled into a cosy entrance area, with room for coats and muddy shoes to be taken off in winter, before walking through into an open-plan living space, including the kitchen, dining and living rooms, that has sweeping views over our land. Also downstairs, there would be a study for my partner and one for myself (my my writing and my craft work). My study would open up into a double story library that is lined, floor to ceiling, with bookshelves, with one glass-walled window to let in natural light (and the country views).
Upstairs, our bedroom would have an ensuite with a large shower and a spa-bath and both the bedroom and the bathroom would overlook a private courtyard garden. The children's bedrooms would be close enough for us to keep an eye on them as babies but far enough away that they have their own spaces as they grow into teenagers. They would have their own playroom/retreat area and their own shared bathroom.
Outside, we would have a swimming pool and an entertaining area that once again looks out over the fields. The pool would have a waterfall that falls into the swimming area, as well as a spa. The pool itself would be surrounded by slate tiles. There would be a native garden around this area. Near the kitchen, there would be room for a kitchen garden, involving herbs and vegetables that we would use in our cooking.
Not too far from the house, you would find the horse stables, where there would be a barn with stalls that opened up onto individual paddocks. There would also be a few larger paddocks where the horses could roam together. We would also have a few pets - a few dogs and a few cats. There would also be a separate guest cottage, where family could stay when they came for a visit.

She sauntered southward
Singing softly.
Sunrises slowed,
Stars shimmered.
Serene, sweet seductress.

- A haiku about chicken schnitzel.
-
Today was the last day of term and a bunch of us went out tonight to celebrate. After the obligatory drinks, we settled down for dinner and I ordered my usual... a very yummy chicken schnitzel with plain gravy. It was an awesome evening with loads of my awesome colleagues to talk to and celebrate the term with.
Chicken schnitzel with
plain gravy, Coke to wash it
down. A yummy meal.
