- Earth Day

No, I do not.
I don't celebrate "Earth Day" because I frankly don't see the point of setting aside on day out of the whole calendar to honor our planet when we should marvel in the numberless wonders of this magnificent pebble in the Milky Way galaxy; this mote of dust in the universe.
Every day should be "Earth Day." Every hour should be "Earth Hour." Every minute, and every breath should be spent in the awareness that we are most fortunate to exist, considering the staggering odds poised against us in favour of our non-existence. We are indeed fortunate to be alive, and to add to this good fortune, we may indeed be living on the finest planet in our galaxy.

- Monument To See
-
One day, I hope to see the Berlin Victory Column. Erected in honor of the Prussian (German) victory in the Danish-Prussian War, it was inaugurated after the Prussian victory in the Austro-Prussian & Franco-Prussian Wars. On top of the column is the statue of the Roman Goddess of Victory; Victoria (the Greek Goddess Nike could be said to be her equivalent).
I hope to see this monument someday because I recall the first time I saw it several years ago during Obama's visit to Germany in a live news broadcast. I beheld it in awe for a few seconds until the camera jumped to another point of view over the beautiful city of Berlin.
Seeing this monument inspires a powerful feeling in me, like all good monuments indeed should. A student of history, I am aware of how martial the Germanic peoples once were until recent history (particularly after the fall of the Third Reich) has made them into a more peace-loving people.
This monument speaks to me, in a sense. With its proportions, style, form and golden apex, it seems to say: "Remember that we, the German people were once great, and that on our soil reigned supreme the goddess of victory."
