"Life Expectancy" by Dean Koontz is the perfect beach read. It's gripping but hilarious, very easy easy to read but not "dumbed down". I read it while on holiday in Mauritius :)
It's the story of a guy whose Grandfather predicts 5 days of violence and terror. It runs through each of the days from his point of view, but with fantastic humour. I highly recommend it.

- I recommend checking out the Night Markets when you're in Kuala Lumpur

They're real markets (i.e. no set price, you have to barter), they have just about every label (fake) and it's at night! They're open as late as midnight if there's enough business around. I'm from Perth-"everything closes at 5"-Western Australia, so being able to go shopping for a fake Burberry at 10pm is outstanding!
