Manhole

The evening began pretty funny for our six-year-old protagonist. A party at the kindergarden of her little sister, where also some of her schoolmates would be, promised to be a funny evening. Since any of the parents wanted to wach over the the older kids, they weren't allowed to play in the big garden behind the house. Instead the kids chose the atrium as playground to play tag. Two teenage boys did not join the game. "Too childish for them", they said. They were busy with something on the floor, the others simply contiued with their game, running around them, until they two teenager lost interest and looked for another distraction. The tag playing went along until suddenly the six year old girl disappeared. From one moment to the other she was gone. It was like she was suddenly swallowed by the earth. The other kids were clueless were she could have gone.
The lost child found itself again in complete darkness, not knowing where she was. She heard voices coming form above her, but they sounded strangely muted. Now she got scared: "Where the heck am I?", she asked herself and begann to explore her surroundings. There wasn't much to find, just walls around her and no way out. The dimmed voices from above where still there and they seemed to be very upset about something. They made the situation even scarrier than it already was for her. Then there appeared a small light film upside and suddenly the voices were better to understand. The girl stand on tip-toes so she could better understand this mysterious voices. They seemed to talk about her. Several ideas shot the girl through her mind, what this voices wanted from her. One sillier andalso more terrifying as the other, but at this moment completely logical to her. And suddenly there was bright hole in the darkness above her and her mothers head appeared in it. "How did you manage to fall into the canalization? Are you alright?"
It turned out that the two boys tampered with the manhole cover and did not close it appropriately again. As the girl stepped on it, it spinned and sent her down in the canalisation and gave her the shock of her life.
