        To be kind to everyone, vote, and visit the public library often.... all lessons from my grandmother, a woman to this day who has not met a stranger, was proud to cast her vote in the 2009 presidential election at the age of 85, and volunteered at the library until she was no longer able - in spite of dropping out of school in the 8th grade.

        I've voted in every election since I was 18, have lived w/in 2 miles of a public library in every place I've resided for the past 30+ years (and spend lots of time there), and much to my husband's amazement, I engage in friendly conversation w/ at least one person everywhere we go... my grandmother's legacy, to be sure!

    • Weirdest Pet Peeve: Funky Feet!

        I'm almost ashamed to admit that I have a number of pet peeves, but one of the biggest is... gross, nasty feet. Ironically, I'm a FL native (read: LOTS of flip flops!) and as I've become a runner, especially when training for longer distances, my own feet have taken on an entirely new appearance... runners, you KNOW what I'm talking about! **Requires lots of maintenance!**

        the "one" who talked AT us (wish there had only been ONE!) ...
        didn't listen. didn't ask questions. sat behind desk. didn't know us. didn't care to know us. didn't know content? made learning boring....

        AND who turned me into the OPPOSITE kind of teacher!!! (who knows what will influence us??)

        20+ years later and still going strong - from training fellow sailors in the USN, to middle/high/junior college classrooms, to staff development/training and now fitness/wellness coaching/teaching/mentoring.

        Thank you, worst teacher EVER, for making me who I am...

        An off-beat educator dedicated to making learning engaging, fun, and valuable (at least, that's what students and fellow educators say...! LOL).

        Hmmm... more time with family, friends, reading, writing (the old fashioned way).
