First of all, I want to make it clear that if I were to be rommmates with someone on Sesame Street I would have to demand I be the one to pick the letter and number of the day ... and it would always be Z and 0 ;)

Roommate: I would have to say either Bert or Ernie but mainly because I would get two for the price of one and, if it came down to it, I could use one against the other (Evil I can be). If I had to choose though I would opt for the Ernster. I will always take a cantankerous, wily, curmudgeon over an affable, way-too-easy-to-get-along-with pushover any day of the week.

As an aside though, when I was a child we had an amusement park here in the Fort Worth area that was themed after Sesame Street. In fact, it was named (get this) Sesame St. It was the most terrific place in the world for children to not only have fun but to learn as well. That is until it went insolvent and was shut down :(

Sunny days!!

I started out with cassette tapes but quickly moved into vinyl format once I discovered my father's blues, old country, and classic rock record collection. Somewhere in the mix was some time spent listening to the plastic tapes wheel around in Teddy Ruxpin though :D

Vinyl will always be my favorite medium though. The hisses, pops and rattles of the old recordings give the music such a unique atmosphere. I'm all about today's production quality but there is a point where it reaches too far.

Maps
If you know absolutely anything about me it should be that I am a great driver - just usually not in the right direction. I have successfully driven to New Jersey by accident (not even realizing I had passed through Delaware) and drove to New York City from D.C. while attempting to make it to Rochester, N.Y. (please note these cities are in completely opposite directions).
Having maps makes me feel as though I am at least TRYING to accomplish the mission, regardless of how useless they may be in telling me I'm not even remotely close to being on course.
Time to invest in a GPS I suppose (but why when the adventure is in the journey, not the destination!).

Tunes
Every good road trip (when I hear the word travel I automatically assume it means by chitty chitty bang bang as opposed to plane or train - eh, call me poor if you must!) HAS to start with a good soundtrack. Much forethought is placed into the selections that go on my highway reel. Just like a great mixed tape can make or break a relationship ... wait ... what? Sorry, I totally went junior high 80s for a sec. Anyway, I think great tunes are the best friend to any journeyer.

Guitar
When the white lines start to double and my eyes begin to cross, there's nothing better to wake a weary wanderer than pulling over at a rest stop and banging out a few chords. Well, that and punching an elephant-loving Swedish midget until he begs for forgiveness.

... just sayin'

Okay, so, I decided I didn't like my previous answer all too much and had to actually ANSWER the question rather than find a way to sheepishly avoid it. So ... it goes like this:
"Of Mice and Men".
Rejection from someone who means everything to you.
A newborn finding it's first breaths in its new world.
An old person who is staring into the last breaths.
Someone who cares enough to give what they don't have to give.
Reaching out to someone you don't particularly like and seeing that question mark in their eyes.
Being alone and scared in parts of the world and in situations you never thought you would find yourself. Nor never intended to find.
Realizing you hold a sense of purpose and service.
The National Anthem (everytime).
A really great, well-felt laugh.
Knowing your mom is truly the only person in this world who thinks of you before she thinks of herself ... and then realizing that one day she will be gone.
Reliving a favorite memory and knowing you can never have that moment again.
... too much.

aka sends ...

Roy Orbison
In my heart of all hearts I am nothing more or less than musician. The guy who is always reading biographies, articles, listening to music until the wee hours of the morning, and trying ever-so desperately not to let it affect him too deeply. So it's hard for me to actually narrow it down to a mere few.
There is however one group of musicians that dropped me to my knees and they had chosen each other (to pick them yourself would probably lead to nothing more than a selfish mess of ego trips and bad music anyway lol) ... they gathered for one night in 1987 to pay homage to Roy Orbison in what would later be released as "Roy Orbison and Friends, A Black and White Night".
On the album, Orbison was backed instrumentally by the TCB Band (who originally backed Elvis) and they were accompanied by such notable musicians as Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Jackson Browne, k.d. lang, and Bonnie Raitt. These artists also provided backing vocals while many other music mainstays watched from the audience. Roy died just some 15 months later.

However, just for the fun of it ... if I were actually given the chance to throw a group of musicians together, I would have to choose The PolyPhonic Spree and GWAR. That's just good fun folks :)

Well, one time in North Carolina the old group and I decided to have a breakfast cook out on a Sunday morning. Suffering from a hardcore hangover I doused the charcoal with lighter fluid and lit them using a regular Bic lighter ... let just say there were no eye lashes, eyebrows or front part of a hairline to be seen.
Oh yeah, and then there was once at church camp when I covered my arm in Vaseline, soaked it in something flammable (and for some reason I can't recall what it was), and then lit it on fire. It hurt a whole lot more than I was told it was going to and it was quite a bit more difficult to extinguish than I thought it would be. Eh ...

In response to "What Offends You?" prompt ...

Not much ...
I have found that it is easier to go through life not being offended by things because, in the end, who is the person left with the burden of their own being?
Growing up in the Catholic church I was "trained" to have an attached sense of guilt in everything I did, said, or witnessed. At some point I had to shed that notion and realize I was not perfect, never would be, nor would I ever want to be (how lame, right?!!). I know what is wrong and I know the correct path to follow and life to live, but I know also that I will never get there - all I can do is strive to be a better person inside and out while at the same time remaining cognizant of how I move through this world.
For the longest time I associated my own guilts with those of persons who were flagrantly ignorant and for whatever reason I felt that others' actions were somehow a reflection of my own being. I would be embarrassed not for the other person, but for myself even though I had nothing to do with their distaste.
So now, rather than wasting my strength being offended by people, I have decided to seek out and associate myself with those who live their lives in a constant state of self reflection, betterment, and humility.
So again, what offends me? Not much ...
However, those who are offensive serve only in my life to show me the type of person I do not want to become. There are parts of all those people in all of us; perhaps studying them further merely helps us to raise our own consciousness and reach our true "maturity".

When I lived in Beaufort, S.C., there was a little inlet off of a causeway leading to a local island. You could pull off to the side and walk around the waterway down to a rather small inlet where the dolphins would come and swim during the late afternoons. Because of the positioning of the inlet and the time of day the dolphins were there, there was always a nice breeze and cool water making even the hottest and most humid days of the year tolerable.
Another favorite place of mine in that area is St. Helena's Island. I used to participate in a Loggerhead turtle egg-relocation project there. We would have to arrive about five in the morning and comb the beach for the large pockets of eggs the turtles had deposited the night before. Once we found them we would take them to a nursery further up from the water so they would not be destroyed by natural predators or the Ocean's waves. The beautiful thing about it was the sunrises that would brush the horizon and the waves that would lap against clouds on the skyline. Good times!

I have to go with a pack of hyenas on this one. At first instinct I want to say the gorilla but I have to recognize the fact that the hyena is built with bone-crushing jaws and flesh-tearing teeth. The gorilla, while strong, would only try to overpower them or strike at them with something. With a pack of hyenas, if he got lucky and hit a couple of them he would still have more doing the work on him in the mean time.

I don't know that I would consider it "sweet-talking" per say ... but I find the best way to learn and to accomplish what is at hand is to act ignorant rather than to come across as a know-it-all. People are more willing to help you accomplish what needs to be done if they feel they are the most important part of the process.
In short, rather than talking down to them, I find it better and more satisfying to empower people.
