    • Don't say 'Sweepstakes' or 'Nugget' around me.
      • Some people don't have words that bother them. I do, even if my reasons are inconsistent. Sometimes my stomach churns at the mere sound of a word, while other times it's the meaning or logic that upsets me. In spite of that, I have a soft spt

        Sweepstakes
It sounds horrible. It's an over-sibilant portmanteau with bad connotations. It embodies so many wrong things about modern life. I learned to shudder at this word while reading a Herbie the Love Bug promo on the back of a cereal box somewhere around 1980.

        Nugget
Just say it. Now lower your voice. Whisper it. Say it suggestively. Now stop, because you're giving me goosebumps.

        SST
This is one of many crossword answers that throws me into fits. Who ever called the Concorde an SST? Who says "Let's take an SST over to Paris?" Nobody. Just as nobody talks about a "topee"... the just say "pith helmet."

        Shorty
One of many modern urban American slang terms that is not only redundant but soulless and derogatory.

However, I inexplicably seem to have no problem with people tossing around words like "biatch"... Maybe that's because it's been so over-used that it's lost its meaning.

        owt
It's the same number of letters. It's almost the same sound. Why waste everybody's time by using this abomination? If it only saves one or two keystrokes, it's not really an "abbreviation", and if it's the same length, you're just a chump.

My hypocrisy: I am not bothered by folks adding "z" instead of an "s" to a word, as in "mad skillz".
