    • A Memorable Job Interview
      • set the house on blaze with a cigarette

I drove for two and a half hours without a cigarette. This was in 1992 and I was a smoker. I was also nervous about the job interview and a cigarette would have been very welcome. However, the last thing I wanted was to turn up smelling of smoke. I really wanted this job and new how important that first impression would be.

I arrived on time and was asked to wait in the reception area - as I sat down, the button on my jacket fell off. So now I was nervous, suffering nicotine withdrawal and looked like I shopped at a jumble sale. None of this boded well for a successful interview.

I asked the receptionist if she had a needle and thread and the good news was that she did - the bad news was that the pointy end was no longer. The needle had snapped. Somehow I managed to get the button back on and just in time.

I was asked to go through to a meeting room where I was introduced to my potential new boss and his boss. The interview began with various questions as expected and then I had to give my 15 minute presentation on a subject I'd been asked to prepare for. This seemed to go well and I felt that I was doing ok. I finished the presentation and answered some more questions, before being asked by the director "Do you mind if I smoke?"

Oh God...after all my efforts at not smoking despite my nervousness, this was unbelievable! Still I was proud of myself for hanging in there.

And yes, I got the job :)

    • What I Want to be Remembered For
      • Being honest, valuing friendships, my sense of humour and being able to make people laugh, being kind and thoughtful towards others, giving, encouraging, loving, considerate, achieving (something?!). And hopefully as a good mum, daughter and friend (sniff). Chances are I'll be remembered for consuming vast quantities of wine....well, it's my business!

    • Why I Might Go Digital
      • Wise Eyes

I am definitely considering getting an e-book reader. As someone who is very short-sighted, I find it hard to read when I go to bed. Reason being I have already taken my contact lenses out....so, I have to have the book virtually on my face with one eye shut (yeah - I know - it is funny) in order to get the words into some sort of focus.

Nothing will change my love of books and I love collecting them, particularly food books. An e-book reader will not replace these ones, just make the books I read in bed one helluva lot easier!

Oh and having read a bit about them, I reckon I'll go for the Kindle...

Because it would be selfish and unthinking not to. And because they'd think that too. And they deserve better.

Because if you don't plan for it it won't happen. Or it might not happen.
