        Having just sat down for the first time all day, cup of coffee in one hand and the most beautiful, moist piece of chocolate cake in the other, mouth-watering in anticipation, finally time to relax and enjoy a half hour of the most glorious silence. The shrill of the phone breaks the peaceful silence, please god don't let it be my ex-boss Peter, the kids told me he had rang three times already today,
        I know what he wants, his just received a case that no-one else can take on, I'm over worked as it is, my caseload is already over the recommended number, and he will have me on the phone for an hour or more...

        If it was anyone else I'd tell them where to go but he knows how to make me feel guilty, I decide not to answer the phone. oh god!, what if its my dad, his not been well lately; no my dad is with my brother. I'm not answering it, they'll ring back if its important, it could be one of children in trouble, what if it's the guards telling me Terry's been in an accident; I better answer it...I put the cake back on the plate; "Hello!", "oh!" "hi Peter, I was just going to ring you"....

    • Professional Goals for the Next Year

      • Plan B!..


        For years, I worked as a Disability Consultant this year I have mused with the Idea of starting up a Consultancy Firm again. I am employed full-time at present and I am hoping to be still in the same job at the end of the year. My job has changed from been primarly county based to being Regional. I guess, the Consultancy Firm is Plan B, just in case I can't manage the Regional bit. I will be working in the same county for the most and I am praying I will manage but just in case, I may be a Disability Consultant instead of Disability Advocate next year!..

      • I love Valentine's Day, it's the day my husband treats me like god, and I let him. He always buys me great things, cards with verses that bring tears to my eyes, a dozen red roses, wines and dines me and we dance away to my favourite band.. and then I wake up and go to work.

    • A Law That Should Exist

        It would be a law safe guarding the rights of people with disabilities in Ireland. Ireland has many laws yet it has failed miserably when it comes to disability laws. The EU Human Right for people with disabilities remains unratified, Ireland enacted the Disability Act 2005, and The Citizens, Information Act, both Acts are resource based, parts of the Disability Act are not implemented and The Citizens, Information Act is nothing more than a piece of paper. The Equal status and Employment Equality Acts are inadequate in protecting people with disabilities against discrimination. Taking a case before the Equality Tribunal can take up to 2 years or more.
