      • the speed of a fat dog

Day upon Day, I wait. "Will rain fall today?" I ask. This dry kind of air will burn lush grass to a crackly brown. I walk and kick up dust onto my dogs, Rusty and Clara, who long for rain, too. The hollow, hot days slow us both to a crawl.

Is it-that far away spot of gray? I think I spy a small, dark cloud coming toward us, hanging low with-rain! It is a fact-rain is plopping drops on the ground as I watch, still as a rock. My dogs bark as the drops fall, and splat! - right on Clara’s happy snout. Rusty begins to lick the ground.

I cry with joy and stick out my arms, waving both jubilantly, up and down and back and forth.

      • Powdering Her Nose

Get rid of my nose! Please! I always look in the mirror and am faced with its everpresent domination of my face. The change recipe: Thinner on the sides, with a more elegant tip with slightly less flared nostrils. On the other hand, if I didn't have the nose to irritate me, probably some other part of my face would...and I am only considering the reflection of the bathroom mirror. God forbid I make this decision while looking at the full length mirror on the closet door. Maybe I would choose...NO! I truly have found my nose slightly annoying since puberty.

    • Friend Numero Uno
      • My husband is my best friend and has been for thirty years. We know each other so well, yet we still are making new discoveries about one another. I can show him every facet of my being without fear of rejection; he allows me to be myself and is able to understands my inconsistencies and weaknesses. He also finds joy in my accoomplishments, as I do in his.

    • My Dream Vacation
      • The Trickster

My dream vacation is not based on a place but a feeling. I want a vacation where I have nothing pressing on my mind. I want a vacation from thinking, worrying, planning, scheduling. So that means, I want someone else to plan the vacation...because as our family's vacation planner, vacations mean I am doing thinking, worrying, planning, scheduling. I want to be a kid again, where the grown-ups did all the planning, and I was a passenger enjoying all the experiences in real-time! I want someone to knock on my door, provide me with a substitute who will do everything that needs to be done while I'm away, and take me on a journey that unfolds...
