    • Clown cut recalls punk rock days of wine and roses
      • It worked for a few months. I passed it off as such, by adding black fingernail polish and very large round dark glasses.

bangs were cut for me that were just plain wrong. First of all, my hair is wavy and bangs do not lay down and act all 'swingy' and 'cute' unless they are heated up with inordinant amounts of heat and steam and then sprayed with something collodial. So, when I 'let' this 'person' that was a 'friend' of my mother's cut my hair, i warned her. She did not heed my warning. I told her that they have to be layered. layering she did none of. See the results for yourself. Flat top, parted in the middle. what? yes. CLOWN HAIR! that's what I had!! All I could do was pass it off as some 'avant-garde-anti-establishment-non-hair with which I was protesting the very idea of being 'controlled by the man' via anything...the least of which was a 'hairstyle' meant to convey some sort of non-conformity to some pre-conveived notion of what our hair should look like if we are to 'fit in' and avoid ostracism.

It worked for a few months. I passed it off as such, by adding black fingernail polish and very large round dark glasses. The punk rock styles I used to wear in the early eighties (spiked short blue hair etc.,) actually did succeed in showing a move toward thumbing our provervial noses at those who did not accept us, and man did that feel good. Sadly now, the very mohawk or spikes that we used to wear appear on minions wearing 'Misfits' or GBH shirts that know nothing about the bands or the culture at the time they were at their height! Those shirts scream CONFORMITY! I'm all for the new "anti" hairstyle whatever that will be in the future, but i"m not donning a shirt from a time that I never participated in.

    • 5 Things I'm Looking Forward to This Week
      • going to our company christmas party
Looking forward to the food, the friends and maybe a Christmas bonus!

going to the Vision 21 Christmas party
My son is a valued 3D animation student there and I am looking forward to hanging out with the administrators and him socializing with the other students.

Eating Pho with my husband on Monday night.
There's this restaurant that we've been going to for about 3 years now almost every Monday night and we chat with one waiter that is our friend. It's always a nice time and the food is amazing.

    • Three Songs I Never Get Sick of
      • Rag and Bone by The White Stripes

Jack and Meg are playing an amazing jam and singing about going 'garage-saleing." It's hilarious. It's an audio illustration about how if you've got a groove and you work it, you can sing about anything. This just happens to be hilarious because it's such a disparity. The hugely famous rock singer and his ex, just doing regular stuff. Of all things....'garage-saleing." Who woulda thunk. Even folks who probably don't NEED to go garage-saleing, do it and love it just like I might. Because you find weird cool things, and actually, it kinda makes sense that Jack and Meg would do this., so...I suppose it makes sense that they would be jamming and start jokingly singing about 'garage saleing.' Quite accessible, real and funny.

        Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix

The guitar is sweetly floating. The harmonics, the lyrics and like clouds. Butterflies, and Zebras, fairy-tales...that's all she ever thinks about...riding with the wind. It's ethereal. A real trip through the clouds. this song is joyous, effortless to listen to. I never get tired of it.

        Adult Books by X

The 50's vibe that runs through the song, and the Rock-abilly-punk take on it. The masterful songwriting, the interesting comparison between singles, thinking below the belt and adult books written by Jackie Susann in the 60's. So succinct, so well done. The original recording of the song is crisp and John Doe and Exene's voices dance together dipping and swaying, at times lovingly dissonant and then harmonizing perfectly. I guess that's why I've always been so entranced by their voices together. Sweet dissonance and in the next turn beautifully filling each other out. Adult Books, a masterpiece for sure.
