    • The Best of Times.........
      • I honestly believe that we can only be at our best when we are truly being ourselves, no airs and graces, no pretense, and no hiding behind a false mask. There have many times when I have felt at my very best, may not have looked at my very best, giving birth to and then cradling your first born in your arms will never win you any 'Smartest Turned Out Mum of The Year' awards, but believe me, there is very little that can top bringing life into the world.

For sheer unadulterated exhilaration my best times were galloping my pony over Epsom Downs as a young teenager. My long hair streaming in the wind, my heart racing in time to my pony's hoof beats, the feeling that I was truly flying!!!

As for looking at my very best, what else could it have been, as it is for any female, than at my wedding. Sadly I was so nervous that the day seem to pass in a blur, but looking back at the photos, yes, the joy and happiness I felt at marrying the man I loved shone through to my face making me feel and look very beautiful indeed.

    • Home Is...
      • Cottage in Stradbally

Home, it's not just that place where you can kick your shoes off and relax, although that is a big part of it. Home is the place where you do feel most comfortable being at, or it should do. So I suppose alot of what goes to make up a home is the atmosphere. the ambiance, that is not dependant on whether your home is made from bricks and mortar, a travellers caravan, a nomads tent, or, in the most rarest of circumstances, a hotel bedroom. When we were small children, emotionally dependant on our parents, then home was deffinately where ever they were, because where they were was where you felt most safe and protected. I can confirm this having been an 'army brat' and spent most of my childhood travelling the world. When grown up and married home is that magical place that the two of you have put together, your first little love nest, and it really didn't seem to matter that it was a cheap little bed-sit above the 'Chippy,' it was yours, it was special. Later when the babies started to arrive and the finances allowed a larger accomadation then home was where all that you loved and worked for was. I remember my late hubby saying that when he returned after working away he always felt he had arrived home when he heard the sound of the little ones feet running down the side alley to meet him, and always knew for sure he was home when he could take us all in his arms for a family hug! So, is a home just about the people you love who live there, I believe so. My children have now flown the nest and I am a widow. I no longer live in the the large old family home we once had, it became too empty after my husband passed away. I now have a delightful small flat close to the shops and the library. I live there with my dog and cat and am by and large content. Strange to say though, my daughter, who has never really lived with me in my flat still refers to it as 'home,' apparently anywhere I am is home to her.

    • If I Had the World's Attention for Two Minutes
      • Old woman's hands tucked between her legs

If I could I would ask the world, "Are you proud of this planet of ours? Do you think you have left our children a fine inheritance? Have we got everything documented properly so we can let the future see all the species of animals that have became extinct since the turn of the 20th century due to over hunting, deprivation of natural habitat, pollution and the mistaken belief that humans look better in their skins than they do? Do we have the reason why it is acceptable to stand by and let hundreds of thousands of men, women and children die of starvation? Will we have the answers when asked. "Are we not all born equal?" This planet, this earth of ours is astounding beautiful, rich in a diversity of all life forms, today, right this minute, we can only enjoy a very small remainder of what our grandparents experienced, and our grandchildren, what will be left for them to enjoy and be proud of?

    • Paper or Digital?
      • Typewriter

When writing for a blog of course it is done on an electroniic device, my laptop. It is so easy these days with spell checker, delete buttons, magnifyers and what have you. Back in the day it used to be my manual typewriter, tippex, the Oxford Dictionary, stuck keys, worn out ribbons, and a thoroughly bad temper! I do still use a note pad (paper) and pencil, it is much easier if one sees an item on the telly for instance, to jot down names, web sites, and background info before going on line to research...and yes, I still do shorthand!!.
