Bronze Statuette of a Standing Male Figure
My parents were expecting a boy and were unprepared when I popped out. No girls' names were on their list. My mother looked at the calendar and it appeared to be St. Claudio's day - "She can be Claudia" she said.
I have been thankful for small mercies ever since - it could have been St. Attila

I am bilingual Italian and English. I speak French and kitchen Spanish. I am grateful for all the Latin American immigrants who passed through my kitchen and added to my odd Spanish vocabulary!!

Strawberries (La Trinidad, Benguet)
Strawberry Basil Sorbet - the basil makes it surprisignly refreshing. To stick with sorbets, balsamic vinegar sorbet pairs incredibly well with savory food (it sounds yucky but you've got to trust me).
While eating at a Cuban bakery I discovered the cream cheese and guava paste combination, a divine inspiration, which became the base for my guava cake with cream cheese frosting. Worth every calorie!
