      • Senator George S. Mathers Reports - J. Edgar Hoover Communism Interview

I was reading 1984 for the first time, and at a certain part, I realized I wanted to be a member of the Communist Party of Canada. It was quite an odd realization - certainly at quite an odd time. The passage, of course, was degrading communism as a mechanism for the upper class to stay in power: a continuity in history, which I believe is still in effect today. The attempt of communism (communism itself has never actually occurred, therefore cannot be judged as successful or unsuccessful) has, in most standards, failed. I place this in the hands of corrupt leaders, who essentially cut corners and were not acting in the manners of their supposed ideology. Capitalism and democracy stimulate the economy and provide order that attempts of communism did not achieve, but there still remains problems that I really believe could be solved by successful revolution, or perhaps the evolution as Marx suggested, to communism. In the past, the importance has been placed of the "Great Man" who leads revolutions, but if it was not about this man, and about the people, it would eradicate the selfishness and despotism from the act, and essentially solve problematic aspects of communism that previously hindered the achievement of the political movement. Alas, I will stop rambling about my ideology and merely say that this is what occurred at five o'clock this morning as an "AHA!" moment.

    • an hour to bend the faults of time.
      • A ruined temple, Greece

Oh my, what a difficult thing to ask yourself - where would I travel back in time... The limited time frame of an hour (which in itself sort of aggravates me because if you can travel to the past or the future, you should be able to bend time a bit!) makes it that much more problematic. Hm, I would travel to classical Greece. I would unearth Plato or Aristotle or one of the many dramatists and poets that were alive during that time period. I find it so fascinating that the structure of my life is derived from thoughts and ideas of men (and probably women, though they weren't terribly mentioned) who existed so long ago. Of course, there are so many time periods where I'd like to expose myself to given the chance, but I think Greece would take precedence!

    • we are all connected, if only fleetingly.

I'd like to be remembered for experiencing life and writing of it in such a way that my tainted perspective could be understood by other actors on the great stage of life. How wonderful it would be to have someone read my thoughts when I'm dead; to not only absorb them with shallow eyes, but to take the words in such a way that makes them feel less alone. I think that's the most spectacular occurrence, when I'm reading Oscar Wilde or any other poet or author on a day where I'm feeling particularly desolate, and suddenly by reading those words I feel as though we have a connection - that each of us has penetrated the mind of the other - and therefore I feel whole with the thought that I am not alone in this crazy world. I'd like to be remembered for giving even a single person the hope that they, too, are not alone in a lonely world.

    • euphoric sundays.
      • Reading and drinking (in bed)

Oh, my perfect Sunday. I'd have to say that Sunday is my favourite day of the week. It's the perfect excuse to relax and to do exactly what I please. It's the day when I finally say 'no' to everyone else, despite my people-pleasing tendencies. My perfect Sunday would consist of a bath and watching the original three Star Wars and reading and experiencing divine afflatus which prompts me to write, write, write. Of course, my usual Sunday's are comprised of laundry, reading, parading around the house in pajamas, and doing whatever work needs to be done at home. Regardless, my perfect Sunday is perfectly achievable!

    • a vague ancestry of sorts.
      • Collage Blending

I'm aware of very little of my family's ancestry. My father's father was born in Ireland with his twin brother and sister, I believe. My mother's side originated from either England or Canada. I am barely knowledgeable of any history and that's a bit disappointing. Unfortunately, my family simultaneously holds a grudge on the past - never forgetting a single detail - and refuses to talk about it. Over long chats at the kitchen table, my grandmother often spills open wounds of my mother's past, but that doesn't quite qualify as details of my ancestry.
