- Embarrassing email sent to parents; "Baby, we're meant to be" text received
-
I've received very few, only one that I can remember. It was in the early days of cell phones so I don't think it was an elaborate prank or anything.
I received a text which said something like, "Hey don't get mad," then, "Baby, we're meant to be, you're the one, etc., etc." I didn't tell this person that I wasn't the one, and few days later, "Geez, you're cold."
Yes, yes I was. Heh. For a brief moment I considered saying that he had the wrong number. Here was some poor schmuck thinking he was reaching out, and some girl (my assumption) realizing she'd been right about this loser who never reached out. But I kind of figured he should have apologized first, without skittering around it. And he should have had the balls to call her, no text.
I don't text. But I have been the sender of some embarassing emails. One to my parents, in my earliest college days, describing some dude who was hot. It was meant for a girlfriend; I don't know how I put in their address. Another was a "how are you, this is what I've been up to" email to an elderly former mentor and professor, in which I cut and paste a funny story intending to cheer him up. Only I'd sent the original story to another friend, but then accidentally left in the very off color parts. I don't remember how lurid it was but I probably tried to block it out of my memory. Especially since he said in his reply that he was happy I was doing well, but he didn't quite understand the story.
I've probably sent out many more embarrassing ones since I am rather hasty sometimes and I send some things out without obsessing, which I do with other emails that hang out in draft for days until the reply is almost too late to be relevant. If you've received one from me that was really embarassing, thanks for not sharing that with me.

- My Parents' Influence on My Personality
-
Father's. Although a mix, mom tends to be more of an optimist, with little fear of rejection of strangers or opportunities. A true extravert and unashamed of being the center of any narrative. Has mellowed with age, but was definitely a bully. Father, on the other hand, is mentally ill. Anxious, introverted, easily defeated. But also, idealistic, artistic and sensitive. Neither are really strong. Strong-willed at times, but not really with a backbone. But both are kind. Both are highly creative and each have found a artistic medium that they focus on, later in their lives.
In writing this down, it's strange to see myself refected in these descriptions. My personality is definitely more pessimistic, but my social manner might be more like my mom's... creates for a disconnect between my inner and social beings sometimes.
People are complex.
