    • Something I'd Like to Learn More About
      • Solar Panels

I would like to learn more about building your own solar panels and Solar Thermal heating a hot water heater with solar energy. Utility bills are outrageous regardless of the season. Heating in the winter and cooling during the summer. The sun is free and belongs to everyone. I just recently bought a power inverter to keep in my truck along with a small portable solar panel to charge the battery to the truck and a couple of rechargeable AA batteries. The whole set up cost me just under forty bucks not counting truck battery which I already had. I'm self sufficient in my truck and its got me excited to see how many other ways can solar power be used, I've already got my eye on a solar powered flashlight that claims to hold a charged for three years! Got any ideas or suggestions?

    • Do You Find Silence Uncomfortable?
      • Firey

I guess that would depend on a couple of things one of them being am I alone or with someone I know or a stranger, the other being where am I? For the most part I am comfortable with silence especially at home, I've lived in the country for about 3 years now I have learned to be comfortable and appreciate the silence. It took me a while to adjust at first The silence seemed almost too loud, I'd find myself listening too hard for noises like traffic, sirens, construction, dogs barking etc. Noises we become so used to hearing that we are hardly aware of them, that is until they are gone. Having adjusted to the sounds of silence, except for the birds, crickets and few other noisy critters I find it helps me cope when its not so silent.

    • Tips for Saving Money
      • 6175 Vegetable Garden at Monticello

One of the best ways to save money is by staying home and investing your time in growing your own food. This last year I planted what was really my first garden. Aside from some tomato's and cucumbers in a container I have never really planted my own garden before so I had this idea that it would help reduce my grocery bill, and it really might have, but as it was my first time, and it didn't quite work out the way I had wanted it to. I learned a lot though by trial and error and with a little planning and a lot of research I think this years garden will be a success.

    • City or Country?
      • Scenic Country Farm

I'd have to say after living in the country for the last two years definitely the country! It took awhile to get used to how dark it is at night without the glow of the city lights and of course the animal noises.
