    • QOTD - What's on your summer "to do" list?
      • Nationals... Nationals... and more dancing!
Our Recital just finished yesterday (which will get it's own special blog sometime soon!) and tomorrow I leave for two weeks to attend two Nationals with a few of the girls competing for Titles. It's our year off going to Nationals as a studio, but Pageants and Title Competitions are opportunities that can't be missed for these kids... and if it involves me laying on the beach with a Pina Colada, then I'll take part!

First I am heading to Boston for the CanDance Nationals with Rebecca tomorrow. Just to the two of us are flying out for the week and I'm going to take this competition experience without parents around as one to enjoy. Rebecca has to do audition classes and rehearsals and such, which will give me a lot of blogging time while I'm there! She does have a lot of free time, so weve been planning our shopping excursions and spa visits for weeks now!

Then we are flying from Boston to Florida to meet up with our moms, Savanah, her mom, little Denise and her entire family! We'll be in Hollywood, Florida at the Westin Resort for the American Dance Awards Nationals! All three girls are in Title Competition, so the week is just as busy as if our entire studio was there again! It will be a chance for me to experience watching my students on stage in and feel the pride of their accomplishments of competing there.

Then once I get back from my really 'strenuous' vacation it's back to finishing up the expansion on the studio and getting the fabulous line up organized for our annual summer intensive "Dance Hype".

Most people think I probably do nothing all summer, but I have an entire year to plan and get organized for... which involves a lot of Chardonnay and authentic Mexican Food! I'm glad I love my job and my studio and so none of it is really "work". It's just the preparation for next season to attain more goals and seek out greater accomplishments!

But let's get realy here... I've already choreographed half of our Production for next year!!!

It's a really tough life... but somebody's gotta do it!

    • Question of the Day - What would a road trip companion learn about you if traveling with you for the first time?
      • OMG, I totally forgot about my QOTD!
When I'm driving I really like to have the radio playing good music so that I can make up choreography in my head! You know that awkward silence you have in the car with people when you're driving somewhere? Well I don't find it awkward because I'm busy visualizing dances on stage while my passenger is thinking up something great to say to me!

I don't like people touching my radio/iPod while I'm driving cause I need a certain type of music depending on my mood, so I can choreograph routines in my head accordingly!

It's probably worse than if I were talking on my cell phone or texting, which I do neither of while driving, but I somehow can autopilot drive while doing choreography. Sometimes I can't even remember the journey somewhere cause my mind has been elsewhere. It's a skill that I cannot teach you!

One of the major reasons I chose to purchase the new car that I did this year was for the new iPod feature that directly links to the car stereo. I am sick and tired of those crappy radio iPod converters where you have to keep finding a frequency that isn't being used, so this way I just plug it in and it plays loud and clear!

So next time you're driving with me and I'm blaring my Katie Thompson Live CD and not talking to you or caring that you're not talking to me... I'm planning my next masterpiece! Interrupt me, and you'll cause the dancers on stage to fall or drop their prop! Now you know my secrets!

    • QOTD - What's your last dream you remember, and what does it mean?
      • So I usually have dreams about my choreography and numbers I've already done. I literally dream the dance and remember changes I need to make and the next parts I haven't done.

However, recently I haven't been having any dreams that I can recall... I think that means that I'm over stressed about our upcoming show. I have lost that special dreaming choreography skill of mine and replaced it with fear and never ending lists of things to get done before next weekend!

As soon as the show is done I will go back to dreaming up my next dances for next year... you kids better hope I have good dreams!!!

    • Question of the Day - What lessons do you wish parents instilled in their kids?
      • Commitment/Following Through & Consequence!
I'm pretty sure these blog questions have been written directly for dance teachers lately! I could write a book on this question...

I think that the most important thing parents should instill in their kids is a sense of commitment and consequences for their actions. I have seen many a times of the years where kids manipulate their parents to the extreme and are never dealt consequences for their actions, but I have also learned in regards to this that parents do have to pick their battles... but in my opinion, not following through or doing what you were asked deserves consequence.

It's the reason most parents at my studio don't think I am actually a nice person... cause I call both them and their kids out on their stuff and follow through with my consequences that they were aware of ahead of time. It's not hard... that's just life lessons!

Maybe that school dance you weren't allowed to miss Choreography Class for was really fun at the time... but when you had your mom lie to me that you were sick so you could go, you maybe shouldn't have posted pictures on facebook afterwards!!! So you missed rehearsal, and I took you out of that section of the dance, and I called you out about it infront of the class. You don't like it... think about it before you do it next time! And your mother didn't like that I called her out on it either... but maybe you should be helping to teach your kids the value of honesty and commitment!

Even the 7 year olds at my studio get it... "Robin is like the principal of the dance studio... well of like the world. She's even the principal of my parents!!!"

    • Question of the Day - If you owned a store, what would you sell?
      • So I've decided to try this new Plinky "Question of the Day" on my blog... to help keep me thinking in the off season! I'm going to try and relate it to the studio, and dance, but we'll see how off topic this gets!

        Five Cents a Dance

I feel like I kind of already own a store... I sell myself and my services every day! I don't think you can really stock that on a shelf but you know!

If I could own a real store and sell something I would like to be able to stock common sense for people to come and buy! Seriously!!!

After reading a 4 page policy at the Yoga Studio about being aware and respecting people's allergies, including deoderant, parfumes, scented shampoo, scented body washes, and virtually every food group on the planet, except water... I decided that they should post my allergy to stupid people on the list! Keep them away from me or I will break out in hives, and they cause me to drink large amounts of Chardonnay without reason.

Although I'm a dance teacher... do I really need another reason to drink Chardonnay!
