      • help
        I've learned that this word invites fear. If I ask for it or give it, I do not take myself seriously. We have so much inside of us, and we deny it when we are looking for someone to come by and live our lives for us. A word I love is community. In a community, there are people willing to assist one another, keeping dignity and power in tact. This I would live for.

    • When I started using the Internet

      • I used a little Usenet, but found the information there fractured and distracting. In 1996, the Internet for me was mostly email and file transfers, a bunch of command-line stuff from AIX and VAX.

    • The most bizarre gift I've received

      • The day I left Bulgaria, a 13-year-old gypsy girl gave me a package to remember her by. It was a pen, some notes, a little pad of paper, a tie, and some cologne. The cologne was very cheap and stunk. She had generously doused all the objects with the cologne as well. I still treasure that memory, taking the best she had and enhancing it with her personal care.
