Running is my life. I didn't run competitively in high school or college, but I've picked it up later in life. It's changed my life completely, in so many ways. Running is the simplest form of exercise - no gym membership or special equipment needed. Just a decent pair of shoes, shorts and out the door you go. If you're looking to get in shape or lose weight on a budget, running is the perfect choice.

I could go on all day...

When I started using the Internet

Ah, the Internet. The good old Internet. When I was in eighth and ninth grades (1998-89), my mother setup an e-mail account for me, I think through the University of Massachusetts system where she worked. I e-mailed my friend who lived across town, whose parents had also setup something for him. I don't think it quite dawned on me what we were doing. It was more like: "sending messages via computer? Of course we are, what's the big deal?" Sort of like opening a web page today. I was blissfully unaware of the technological implications.

Anyway, our German teacher also got us onto an e-mail system around the same time. We'd e-mail students that we knew in Germany from a partner school. The messages took about 10 minutes to send and receive, which was pretty cool at the time.

After that, I don't remember much Internet use until college, when I took my required Compsci class. By then (1993-94) the Internet was blossoming into today's form and our professor had us on usenet boards and the like. E-mail became a more regular communication tool.

Then came real life, after graduation (1997), and the web became totally integrated into daily life. Since then, I have not conducted much business or led my life without it.

Despite my somewhat early exposure to the Internet, it is remarkable to me that children today won't know anything different. I can't really comprehend a world in which the web, cell phones and cell phone cameras have always existed. My generation might be the last one which will really remember life before the web and mobile phones. I'm glad to have experienced this great human change and can appreciate what these tools bring to our lives.
