      • In response to: "What was the comfort food you enjoyed most growing up?" I loved cream cakes and still do now, I have to be very strict with myself so I cycle everywhere and that allows me to eat more than I should. Luckily I love my bike so I have a happy balance.

    • I love Audio and peoples stories. Radio is where it all started
      • I love the radio. I love it so much I went back to college and learnt all about it I'm now doing a Masters degree in Radio, Media Law and Ethics.
When I was a little girl I would go to bed and listen to the radio under the blankets. In those day the best station was a broadcast from a boat Radio Luxembourg it would fade in and out as the signal was short wave. But I loved it, it would play all the popular songs of the times.
BBC1 was good as well, and then all the commercial stations started up so before you knew it there were hundreds of stations.
The downside of that is all the commercial radio stations are owned by the Global group and they have a template for their style, which means you can go from one end of the country to the other and basically hear the same songs all the way through very sad.
Since I have been back to college I have found so many different stations and with the introduction of social media sites there is so much audio to listen to. What I have discovered is it's not radio so much I love, it's stories, true stories, plays, anything that is interesting and insightful one site in particular is called Snap Judgement. Fantastic stories set to music.
        first class.

    • No I cycle and that's the way it will stay.
      • London Bus

It is available in the area, but the bus drivers are rude, the passengers are loud or eating chips or chicken, they have their feet on the seats like their meant to and a new thing is sitting on the outside of the seat and if people want to sit down instead of getting up and moving properly they shift around so you have to struggle to sit down it is INFURIATING.
Or they play their crap music which they seem to think that we should all listen too. I would love to blast out a bit of Vivaldi or Jim Reeves or Burning spear see how they like my crappy music choice.
If you decide to catch the train then put it this way, they will probably be delayed, by leafs on the line, snow, sun, the wrong type of rain (England) hello, Late at night they stink of booze and chips, staple diet of drunk English people and if you think London is bad try going to the Countryside where the feral youth have nothing to do except cause havoc. At least the London kids have a bit more choice as to venues to fight in. I do love the tubes and think they probably run a little better than other transport but you still have to get a bus or train to get on a tube, depending on where you live in London. so to answer the question No I cycle in London, It's quicker and calmer.

    • spend your money wisely, especially in a recession
      • If you are what you consider Middle class you had better watch out you can become poor very quickly in this recession. To avoid disaster you must act swiftly. Do not bury your head in the sand. The first thing to go must be your pride, the second is some so-called friends, you may not actually get rid of them yourself but they may belong to your old life which you can no longer afford and they certainly aren't going to fund you, unless they are super rich and related too you in some way or they are very nice people and in my experience that is very few and far between.

It could start very quickly. First your hours are cut at work it is your little pin-money job, but your husbands work is not generating as much money as it used to and little niggley things are happening. You had better cut down on your drinking in the week because you can't afford it and actually the way you feel after drinking on top of your money worries leaves you feeling a bit sick in the mornings. The Private tennis club that you pay a fortune to attend is suddenly very expensive and as they are also feeling the pinch they are putting their prices up you know that you are going to have to make a decision here soon, do we stop coming and lose the friends that we have made here or do we go on pretending that everything is fine. You'll not eat there in the evening anymore because the price of the children's food is unbelievable and not the best quality.

Next will it really mean shopping at Tesco's or God forbid Lidl's, not Marks and Spencer or Waitrose for that weekly shop. Lidl's actually sell some quality products, their jams are beautiful.

Will you even begin to consider that two cars might be too expensive, I mean the price of petrol is just disgusting, the school is just down the road and around the corner, so maybe you might find that actually it's nice walking to school because you can talk to the kids and you might find out little things about them that you didn't know before you started to become poor.

I have a friend who runs a shoe repair shop and he says that the number of people having their shoes repaired has doubled, you will have to love your favorite shoes a bit longer and not just throw them out when they become worn down, oh and you may have to buy shoe polish to keep them shiny and clean, like your mum and dad did when you were small, remember some of you weren't always middle class.

The heating must come down, when I was little we lived in a Victorian house with no heating, we had little electric heaters and thick blankets it was also common to wear jumpers, slippers and scarves whilst watching the telly, I remember waking up on cold mornings and Jack Frost had visited he left his icy marks on the inside of the windows, I am not suggesting for one moment that you let your house get so cold that you have ice forming on the inside of your house, but you could put the dial down from 20 to 10 and remember to put that jumper on. If your children have left home what are you doing with the spare bedrooms? Have you considered a lodger. I can hear your cries of derision already, "I'm not having strangers in my house" Think of it as running a business, I have had lodgers for a number of years without them I would not have my property anymore, I would be homeless or living in council accommodation, not that there is anything wrong with that but I have been there and I don't want to go backwards.

Do you go shopping everyday, cheap things, medium range or quite pricey, because you have to keep up with the mums on the school run who dress up as if they are going to a Wags convention. Ha ha ha who wants to live under so much pressure.

I had a good look through my wardrobe and realized that I wasn't even wearing some of the clothing that I thought was so lovely and original and then got bored with so quickly. Well not anymore wear them and stop being so fussy mix and match. Really the trick is to be yourself not what you think others think you are, stop acting, get comfortable with yourself and live YOUR life, really it's not so bad and one day with a little hard work, a little austerity and a lot of humor you may become middle class again. Good luck

    • I have a cat suit that I wear for me not a man
      • I definitely would have been a cat. Not that I'm a cat lady or anything like that, you know someone who has loads of them roaming the house, but I like the way they relax, this includes stretching, lying in the most unlikely places the edges of things that no human could or would want to. I like the way their eyes light up when they see something they want to play, kill, or interact with. mmm, mouse. I had a cat called Princess she was thirteen when she suddenly aged overnight became an old lady and died. I was so upset it made me cry that was two years ago. The shocking thing was that nobody cared and some people even laughed and made fun of me so I had to stop telling people that "my cat has died" sob.
She was a Persian but I believe she had been over bred, so for all of her life she had breathing problems and her eyes would run, I would have to keep them clean. I know disgusting if your not into cats.
I love the way they clean themselves and the way they don't need any friends, they get their own food unless they are really spoilt in which case they will probably die.
she lived to be older than my son and for that alone I had a special attachment, I know this sounds mad but I used to call his name when she was there just to watch her ears prick up, as if she understood the name I was calling. She was pure white and had yellow eyes and made the most terrible sounds sometimes when she would get blocked up. I totally understand why some people thought she was ugly and sneezy but I loved her. Also now I understand how much she did for me. Once I was getting ready for work and she was acting very strangely, jumping around my feet and sitting staring at me then I noticed it, A huge great dead rat in my living room, What a GIRL. I love her. I went to a party recently and bought a cat suit, it's meant to be worn as a sexy suit for your man, but I wear it as normal wear ha ha ha ha. I wore it to my friends birthday party and was so tempted to wear it to the Rugby grounds, but stopped myself as I already have a name without being The Nutty Woman as well
