- Would I Survive No Internet for a Whole Month?
-
I could survive. Somehow.
I could live without Internet for a month, but it would be difficult. I am so connected and I use those connections for writing and exploring and creating. But, I also know that stepping away from it all at various times during the year is a worthwhile endeavor because it gives you distance to reflect on the balance between physical worlds and virtual worlds. I would survive, but I would miss it.

Remembering a crush
They shared the back seat of the bus -- two high school band geeks on their way to another parade somewhere. Later, they would be in lockstep, marching their way down one street and into another. He'd be able to see her out of the corner of her eye now and then, her silver flute held up to her lips. Now, they were laughing and playing word games to kill the time. She grabbed his arm to keep from falling out of the seat they shared when the bus hit a bump. Her touch felt frantic, clutching him in mock silly panic. He suddenly looked at her in a way he had not looked before. She didn't notice as she slid back into the seat, her legs touching his, and he remembered her boyfriend -- the star of the football team with huge arms and the look about him of royalty in the school hallways. She smiled at him in thanks but he knew that was all it would ever be -- just a smile -- so he leaned back and stared out the window as the world slid by.

Remembering a walk in the woods
Reflective pond with trees and bridge
The tree was lined with moss and he watched as his friends easily danced across the natural, vertical bridge. He gulped. The river rushed beneath the fallen tree. It would be about a 30 foot drop, if he fell. If his foot slipped. 'Come on,' he heard someone yell, and so he reluctantly started. He felt his weight shift, his foot gripping the bark of the old tree, and he held his arms out like a ballerina. Halfway across, just as he felt gravity tugging him down, he ran, which he knew he shouldn't do but could not help himself. He ran and then leaped, clutching the grass on the banks of the river. His friends had already turned towards the woods. They could not hear his heartbeat pounding in his chest. But that sound was all that he heard.
