Actually, it's not a good post-breakup song, except in its astonishing ability to illustrate, through music, the incredible feelings of yearnings and regret one feels over the one who got away.
It expresses both the person's desperation after the loss of his love, and his reasons why she shouldn't leave him (What'll you do when you get lonely/And nobody's waiting by your side?")

First, it conjures up the image in my mind of a giant, infected pustule. Plus, I just hate the way the word sounds - with two p's, and an 'm' inbetween. It just sounds gooey, somehow.
