        Ford Probe GT (2003-10-004)

Well, let's see... The first memory that I have of driving is when I was 12 (yeesh!), my parents let me drive my dad's beat up old pick-up truck around my grandparents farm near what is referred to as "the river bottom." It is in fact near a river, but I don't understand the "bottom" part of the description. The flat land surrounding a river? Sea level for rivers maybe? I don't know... that's a completely stereotypical southern memory with a 12 year old driving a pick-up truck out in the sticks... My mom also let me practice parking her car in the parking lot of an elementary school before piano lessons around the same time, if that redeems it any. :)

My first car was a 1989 red Ford Probe. It was my aunt's and I called it the cheap Mustang (among other unkindly things)- if you looked at it with one eye from the right angle it slightly resembled a 90s Mustang.

Hatchback, solid red interior AND exterior, no automatic anything, no air, loud roaring engine... talk about AMAZING. The only cool part was the flip-up headlights and the cd player my aunt had installed.

I do have a few good memories of blaring Dashboard Confessional's A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar album (the sounds of my summers) and it took me on my first solo road trip to visit the BFFHS in Birmingham our freshman year of college.

It's the one place that really sticks out to me from that trip. It was just so ornate and unlike anything I'd seen in the States. I keep a photo of the stained-glass dome next to my desk. Also very cool: the main post office that looks like a castle and Plaza Mayor.
