      • The earthquake hit and we could not conect

        On business in Tokyo and the quake hit. Pre cell phones. No lines to the USA. She saw the news of the quake in Japan. We could not reach each other for three days. We were both accustomed to the global travel thing. I did 6-8 weeks a year in Europe and Japan yearly. She would fly to a city to meet me in Europe. But the Tokyo days of ZERO connection were so uncomfortable for us both. Married 40 years now, we often talk about those 3 days of stressful silence.
