We were at a public library (changing my kids' books) when I spotted 'Storm Harvest' on a cart stacked with recent returns. I'd just heard that Doctor Who was returning to TV and decided to borrow the book (using my son's card, I didn't have one at the time).

It wasn't amazing but it was fun, and I started borrowing a couple of Doctor Who novels each time I took my kids to the library - eventually I took a chance on some "mainstream" fiction and I'm now seldom without a book... and I've met some good people via bookcrossing.com and other book-related websites.

My two oldest kids are both excellent readers and I feel that's partly because I've read around them and to them regularly from a young age.

All thanks to a TV spin-off paperback :)
