The Games We Use To Play

Passed down from one generation of children to the next.
This is a list of my favourite games as a wee Jack.
What are some of your favourite childhood games?

Hide and Seek

Double Dutch
{Jump In!}

TV Tag
Regular TV Tag

<justify>Step 1

Gather a group of players and decide who is going to be the person who chases everyone else. This person is called "It."

Step 2

Run and try to stay away from the person who is "It." If they get close, yell out the name of a TV show and touch the ground. The player is now safe for 10 seconds and the "It" player needs to leave that player to tag others--no waiting around to tag the person when the 10 seconds are up.

Step 3

Avoid repeating a show you or any other player already mentioned. If a player can't think of a show or repeats the name of a show, the player becomes the new "It."

Mother May I?
Mother, may I ____?

 <justify> * Take (#) steps forward
* Take (#) GIANT steps forward (usually a small number, due to large step size)
* Take (#) BABY steps forward (usually a large number, due to tiny step size)
* Take (#) umbrella steps forward
* Hop forward like a frog, (#) times
* Run forward for (#) seconds
* Crabwalk forward for (#) seconds
* Take (#) CINDERELLA steps - Twirl forward with index finger touching the top of the head</justify>

Hopscotch

Red Rover
Red Rover, Red Rover, I call Jackie on over.

Dodge Ball
The players try to hit other players with balls and avoid being hit.

Kick Ball
A playground game similar to baseball. Kickball is also known as soccer-base or soccer-baseball.

Flashlight tag
Played at night, this game mixes the games, hide and seek
with tag.

Tree House
Something we built in the woods in our back yard. It was big and rickety and so unsafe but loads of fun.

I-Spy
I had a dream the other night, where I was in a beautiful vibrant green field, above me was a magnificent vermilion sky. I was all alone just taking in all the beauty that surrounded me; the wind was gently blowing and every now and again there would be the scent of vanilla in the air. I was happy and content. Then the sky turned blood red and the clouds sped in fast forward motion. The sweet smell of vanilla was replaces with stale, sour air. All the good feelings drained from me and were replaced with fear and panic. I woke up covered in sweat, my heart pounding.

What is your interpretation of this dream?

It is a tragicomedy about a Venetian merchant, Antonio, complains to his friends of a melancholy that he cannot explain. His friend Bassanio is desperately in need of money to court Portia, a wealthy heiress who lives in the city of Belmont. Bassanio asks Antonio for a loan in order to travel in style to Portia’s estate. Antonio agrees, but is unable to make the loan himself because his own money is all invested in a number of trade ships that are still at sea. Antonio suggests that Bassanio secure the loan from one of the city’s moneylenders and name Antonio as the loan’s guarantor. In Belmont, Portia expresses sadness over the terms of her father’s will, which stipulates that she must marry the man who correctly chooses one of three caskets. None of Portia’s current suitors are to her liking, and she and her lady-in-waiting, Nerissa, fondly remember a visit paid some time before by Bassanio...

Green rolling hills mixed with rocky and sandy shore line, old farms, ocean breezes and charming people. Here, time nearly stands still and the pace of life is just so relaxed. I always return home so refreshed, with a new perspective. It is my dream that one day hubby and I will have a summer home somewhere along this shore.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

REDUCE the amount of waste we produce in the first place; REUSE an item or find someone who can use it; RECYCLE the product so that our valuable natural resources are used again and again.

We can all do our part to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that we put into the atmosphere. Many greenhouse gases come from things we do every day. As we have learned, these greenhouse gases trap energy in the atmosphere and make the Earth warmer.

Here are 10 easy things you can do to help:

1. Grow your own food.
2. Eat locally.
3. Buy energy-efficient appliances.
4. Reduce your heating.
5. Reduce your electricity use.
6. Try alternative energy devices.
7. Buy durable goods.
8. Reduce the usage of refrigerants and air-conditioners.
9. Use a reel (cylinder) lawnmower.
10. Buy a bike, scooter, electric bike and use it on warmer days.
