- What My Home Says About Me
-
Snoopy Headquarters at Knott's Berry Farm
My home is so much like myself.
I freak out over the house when I'm having company over. I fuss and fret and clean like a crazy person and then I'm still nervous that someone is going to disapprove or think I'm a bad housekeeper. I worry a lot about what other people think of my house and my person. I try to dress everything up to demonstrate how I have everything under control.
Then you get to my bedroom ... which looks like a bomb dropped minutes ago causing debris to be everywhere. Chaos rules my room and no matter how much I hate it, I feel helpless to keep it clean. This is what makes my real life. I'm a crazy, emotional person on the inside, but I do my best to clean up the outside so everyone in my life believes that I am fine.
Don't be fooled; I am fine.

- 5 Things I'm Looking Forward to This Week
-
My Roommate
He's actually going to be home this week ... it was so fantastic to come home today after work and know that he hasn't flown away. This also means that I had a wonderful meal last night and will again tonight and most of the other nights of my life, until he moves on to something else. Tonight is almost absolutely perfect - he's cooking, we're watching Buffy the Musical, he's singing along (his voice is something so amazing - trust me), and then we're going to be watching Monday Night Football.
Church
I have officially attended church for the last two weeks, which is like a record for me lately. I have felt so socially awkward and anxious about going back, but it's feeling more and more comfortable. Maybe comfortable is the wrong word, but I've been finding a new relationship with God there. I'm rediscovering something that I've neglected for quite a while.
Bowling
My family tradition is to bowl after church on Thanksgiving. I don't know exactly how it started, but it has something to do with my great-grandfather being a celebrity of sorts at the local bowling alley. He was such an amazing person and I truly miss him, but we celebrate his life and legacy each year on Thanksgiving. Plus, I love hanging out with the whole fam - aunts, uncles, cousins, mom, dad, brother, and all my cousins' children.
Thanksgiving Dinner
Turkey, Ham, Green Bean Casserole, Eclair dessert, Cauliflower, Pretzel Jello, Rolls, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy ... need I say more?!
Bah Humbugers ... don't read this last one ...
I'm excited to put up my Christmas decorations. Christmas is one of my favorite seasons and I have been stock-piling decorations already. Joy and rapture!

- 11 of the Things That Make Me Happy
-
Books
They help me escape from my sometimes boring life.
My cats
Most of the time they are wonderful and cuddly and sweet. They obviously think I'm a vending machine ... but they are entertaining and very good companions.
Chocolate
I love chocolate ... I'm pretty sure it's a physical and psychological connection. I have mentioned before that heaven can be found in a Milky Way dark bar, right?
Rec League Softball
I love the physical activity of the game. I love the camaraderie and teamwork. I love the emotional high from a rally or a good defensive stop or a decent hit.
Sports in general
Football, baseball, basketball, hockey, softball ... I'm a huge fan! Even when my team losses, I'm still a pretty good sport about it and enjoy myself!
Friends
They rock and are always there for me, even when I'm down or mess up. They are just awesome and I'm so blessed to have so many good friends in my life.
Family
We don't always see eye-to-eye, but I love them and they love me. It makes me happy to spend time with them and to know that we are always there for each other.
Salvation
My faith is not always the strongest and my life is certainly not a picnic, but knowing that Christ has already paid for all my sin and mistakes is freeing and a remarkable comfort in life.
SanRio
Hello Kitty, Pandapple, Cinnamaroll, Chococat ... they are just so cute! I can't help smiling when I see them. Awwwwwww!
Music
I love rocking out in the car in the summer with my windows down and the radio blasting!
Bath/Shower/Hot Tub
Water in general makes me happy. I love swimming and I love just being able to be warm and relaxed. It's so wonderful!

- My Winter Reading List
-
1. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman - I am currently reading this book because it was recommended to me by my roommate and I'm already loving it!
2. Great House by Nicole Krauss - I loved Man Walks into a Room and The History of Love by this author, so of course I'm going to check out her new one. She's got such a fantastic way with words.
3. Midwives by Chris Bohjalian - Chris writes some great thrillers, which aren't really my favorite, but he still keeps me interested through an entire novel.
4. Several books by Jenny Colgan - They are the perfect beach books, so I can pretend I'm warm and enjoying the sunshine in my favorite place.
5. Days of Grace by Arthur Ashe - I am a huge tennis fan and I'm excited to read the memoir of such an influential member of the American tennis.
6. The Spoils of Eden by Linda L Chaikin - She's one of my favorite authors, so I'm sure this won't be a struggle at all to enjoy.
7. Half Broke Horses by Jeannette Walls - A novel based on the true life of the author's grandmother. Her own memoir, The Glass Castle was so captivating, I cannot overlook the chance to read this book.
I'm sure that there will be more ... when I hit my stride, I'm usually reading a least a book a week ... though I may not remember to post them all on this site. I will of course accept any recommendations too!

- Best Compliment I've Gotten In a While or Ever
-
In general, I'm not a very confident person. I struggle to accept compliments of any kind because they feel awkward, like wearing nylons to work. I've never been the pretty girl, or the amazingly fun girl, or the best athlete, and it's been years since I've been considered anywhere near the smartest girl. I've also never been the best friend because I struggle with emotional intimacy and allowing all of myself to be open to someone. I do try to be a good friend, but find that I freak out on occasion and bail out when I should be stepping up.
So, this is all leading up to an e-mail that I received today, "you are more than enough". Wow ... what an amazing compliment! I obviously struggled to accept it as valid, because this isn't just something little and was overwhelming me. Why would he lie to me? He doesn't lie to me, so that means that at least to one person in this world, for this moment in time, I am more than enough. What a fantastic feeling!
