The trip was actually from New York, NY to Baxter Springs, KS (my childhood home), to San Francisco (via the southern route -- not the northern route shown on the map).

I was living in Manhattan and dating my soulmate who was in law school in SF (and thus couldn't move). I loved NYC and honestly thought I'd raise my kids there, but after moving to SF I can't imagine living anywhere else.
