What's a Summer Soundtrack if I have to WORK?

I used to make Summer Soundtracks & they would rock. Not because it was a good mix really but because I listened to when I was free to live a life of leisure: no job, no school, no worries. Now, Summer doesn't really feel like anything different from Winter, cause I am in a fucking office 8 hours a day (not jaded at all though guys). That being said maybe if I just play some really loud music I'll feel better about being an adult.

My first business was my own cookie company called Katie's Cookie. I was in the 4th grade & I made different Mrs. Field's cookie recipes & sold them to other students. My principal shut me down for health reasons. Dreams were crushed at a young age but no worries, I got a plan.

I want to open a bakery in Noe Valley called Noe's Noshes. It would be my different culinary confections including both sweet & savory. Conceptually there would be a rotisserie side that would offer baked chicken, baked polenta & pasta, etc along with some fresh salads & the other side would be baked items like fresh bread, cookies, cakes, etc etc. My one concern is what happens when you verbally SAY "noe's noshes"...sounds like nausea...

The night before my birthday I had a dream that I was diagnosed with cancer a la Izzy from Grey's Anatomy. When I told my parents they told me I deserved it & they wouldn't pay for my insurance bills. As you can imagine, it was quite stressful & before I had any chemo my hair fell out. I woke up crying. I don't know what this means but I doubt its good.

I am not gonna lie, I got in a lot of trouble. I was always ducking off and doing odd things trying to lie to cover my ass. As a child I lied alot, and got caught alot for it. I am truly a horrible lier....no if an or buts about this one! But I still tried!

Eye Shadow

One day I decided I wanted to do a make over so I went into my Mom's room & used all her makeup to update my look. I did a full facial on this one, mascara, lipstick, etc etc so you can only imagine how it turned out (probably much like those creepy pageant girls that you can watch on TLC now).

My Mom saw me & freaked the duck out! She lost her shit big time. To make matters worse, with a full face of makeup, I was trying to lie my way out of this one. NO, I did not use her makeup. NO, I was not in fact wearing make up.... my red lips? WHO KNOWS...

Musically there are a lot of options on what we can blast. I believe there are 3 core reasons to really turn up the volume:
1. To feel the music. Neil Young is a good example here, the louder it gets the more you feel transformed.
2. To dance your pants off. Sometimes I really need it loud to get my dance on. ANYTHING LCD can get me going...like really dancing up a unattractive storm. A close 2nd here would have been the spectacular M.I.A. herself.
3. To cry & cry & sing along. Sometimes you need to turn up the volume so you have NO IDEA how horrible you sound when you sing it sobbing.

I was 19 & at UCDavis & my boyfriend of the time had me attend a big frat formal in Lake Tahoe. I was so afraid & had never been part of that crowd, I mean my school didn't even have senior prom (as there were 7 of us) so I did not even know how to do all this, getting dressed up & shiz

Well my roommate got me all setup, I bought a dress, tanned for 2 months prior, got my nails done & practiced my hair (3 separate times) NOTHING could go wrong

Which is in fact not the truth. Once my boyfriend & i got up to Tahoe we started to do beer bongs with all our hotel mates & i got drunketted (how stereotypical). BUT i had to get ready...so I put a whole shitload of product including:

hair spray (aerosol)
mousse
gel
pomade

I slathered it on & stuck my hair dryer up in the hair ball I had created. This is not what I practiced those 3 times prior completely stone cold sober. Now you may be asking yourself, but Katie,...that might be a bad idea...

Is the pope catholic?! He is & my hair did, in fact, start on fire. I had to get a hideous pixie hair cut the week after BUT my hair (aside from the odor) looked awesome for the night.

January '09 was a big month for me!

Turbo'd Sentra SE-R

This January I applied for a loan & purchased a brand new '08 Nissan Sentra. It was the most adult & scariest thing I had ever done. It was a great deal but I am still scared shitless by the whole idea. I have nightmares that my car will crash....That is what a year of Caltrain will do to you!

So no dream ride, my current ride is in fact a dream. My quality of life has improved ten fold.

We are extremely lucky in California to have been bestowed with much beauty....

When I was young I spent many an upset summer in Yosemite thinking OH GOD KILL ME. Then in college I went there for a weekend with my GF's & I walked away thinking "holy guac YO-SEM-ITE is the shit y'all".

If looking to be wowed by Yosemite I suggest visiting Sentinel Dome. Its located very south in the park & should be visited at Sunset. Hikers come in with viddles & champagne & watch the sun set over the whole entire park. You get this epic view from that vantage point!

On 1st peruse I was like: DUCK YEA I'm staying....upon deeper thought I would need to know a couple things about the island & current conditions:

1. Island: is it tropical or is it GREENLAND...I wanted to say iceland at first but everyone knows greenland is icy & iceland is bankrupt...so would my conditions be tropical enough that I could have a rope swing into a golden pond?
2. Food: dude honestly if you're gonna get all Survivor on me & make me fish & eat crawdads that I am not sure I cooked completely through & give me rice to boil, I am sorry I'm outtie y'all BUT if you had some let's say delicious viddles I am SO there! This would require some simple items I prefer to munch on like fruit, veggies, chocolate sheet cakes and BOOZE. I need some sort of liquor to get my drink on.
3. Companion: I mean we can see the wheels turning here but if it was, for example, hottie with the body I could stay awhile longer. Oh don't forget the issue of whether they would want to bone down as well? So basically would Match.com find us compatible?
4. RELATIVELY stress-free lifestyle: when you put it that way it sounds stressful. I would need some sort of disclaimer explaining responsibilities cause if this gets all Swiss Family Robinson & one week of the year I need to fight pirates with coconut bombs then duck off.

So that is all I am worried about here. If things met my standards then I would never leave BUT if one component was off I would hit the ground running!

I don't think I need 3 more hours I am ontop of my SHIT & pretty much have a finely tuned schedule that allows me to work, go to gym, sleep, socialize & watch trash tv.

I guess if I had to ADD something into my life I would play guitar every day....if you added $300 with this 3 extra hours I would definitely play guitar via a lesson. I already play guitar AT LEAST twice a week but I would play more i guess, get a little more Neil Young on your asses.

I would also bake more, I would make outrageous baked goods from smitten kitchen & wow the world more ofter with betty crocker talents. I do this once a week so I really don't need to that much more really but that is if you force me to fill time.

And I would lay around a lot more, smell the daisies. But i can't do that, i always try but i am not the relaxing type, not in my personality.

BOTTOM LINE: i don't' really need it...I am a well oiled machine

Career advice

I want to find a new job, not just a job to replace my old one but rather a career. I am not so sure what that entails quite at this point to find what makes me passionate on a day to day basis BUT I do know it would require some soul searching that might involve trying on some new hats.
Possible Career Ideas:
1. Circus: Maybe take some testosterone & start up as the bearded lady? I am a natural entertainer
2. Chef: I am an ok cook & LOVE it. Also I am sure I could be on Top Chef & probably stay till episode 10...sure of it
3. Nurse: I have wanted to go to nursing school since I was 10...then I had the ah-ha moment that I did not in fact want to work 15 hour days & lift 200 lb. obese people bed to bed.
4. Poncy Schemer: not sure if that is how you spell that word BUT pretty sure I could get away with stealing millions from people. Just gotta be smart about it.

When I graduated from Davis my parents sent me on a whirlwind tour of Europe thru the UC. It was amazing being that I saw over 12 countries in about 3 weeks in a group of about 25! Obviously jam packed & action filled with our last stop being Greece & 2 days in Poros at a "resort"

Simply amazing...

My best day there was spent with my morning out sunbathing & going out. I collected mountains of sea glass on the beach since no one wanted it, even the red & yellow pieces! Some overweight man in a speedo kept asking me why I collected it & what I planned to do with it. I drank cheap greek wine out of old liter water bottles & played in the incredibly warm water. I listened to the Fray, yes the Fray, for hours upon hours. I had a bad cold & sneezed the largest booger I have ever seen & drank alot of diet coke. I was appalled when I saw 2 Parisian girls topless on the beach & made scoffing noises at my pure disgust for their voyeurism.
In the evening we cleaned up & went to the a hotel at the top of Poros at a pool bar that overlooked the whole island. We all drank girly drinks, dressed in TOGAS, yes togas, & got shitty. I asked a waitress where the restroom was and she said down the hill because she thought I meant a bed to rest in not a toilet.
As the night progressed I remember complete debauchery, I switched sandals with my friend Gus. One girl Nicole kept getting humped by this 40 year old greek man. Courtney got harassed by men saying they always wanted to sleep with a black women. I got in a fight with a boy on the trip cause we had been gratuitously flirting but i had a boyfriend for like 4 years & was feeling guilty. We all got back to our hotel on ATV's....it was one of the best days I can humanly remember.

Yea so I sound like a 13 year old but yes I admire my Father for MANY reasons but here are my TOP 5 reasons why he is the coolest:
1. He has an amazing memory & knowledge base just like Dad's should. He remembers movie theater numbers although he has not gone to the movies in 5 years, he knows how many grams are in an inch & which star is what in the sky.
2. He loves to be a weirdo. My dad unquestionably has passed this on to me. He doesn't care what ANYONE thinks of him and he is DAMN funny just being himself. He thinks its funny to sing the dishwalla song as "tell me all your thoughts on dogs" OR tell you its poopy salad sandwiches for dinner, no many HOW MANY TIMES you ask!
3. He knows how to make people feel good about themselves. He compliments people in the right way that they need. He hugs you in a way you always feel loved. He is reliable & always there to help you. He has a answer to every problem you have.
4. He can harmonize to any song & loves to watch American Idol...like calls & everything. He plays the guitar & used to be in a blue grass band. He was cooler & is cooler than i can every try to be
5. He is human & makes human mistakes. He is not perfect but he genuinely does apologize if he makes a mistake

When I was 7 or 8 we went to Disney World with my Grandparents & this man walked up to us and asked if I wanted to meet Minnie and in turn be the guest host of the park for the day.
