I am a nurse. The most inappropriately named product of all time simply has to be GoLytely. What is GoLytely? In gastroenterology there is a procedure called a colonoscopy, where a scope is inserted into the rectum and the lower third of the intestine (the colon) is examined for bleeding, polyps, possible malignancy, and other problems. That part of the body must be very clean at the time of the examination so the physician is able to visualize the surfaces of the colon. This is the purpose of GoLytely. It is a powder, polyethylene glycol, which is reconstituted with a gallon of water to make a slick liquid with the taste of nothing--NOT tastefree, it tastes like nothing. The gallon must be consumed until the patient is experiencing copious clear diarrhea. Whatever was someone thinking to name this product GoLytely? I dislike jokesters in the medical support industries.
