      • In response to: "If you were in a movie right now, what music would be playing?" I'm thinking "Starlight" by Muse. I'm having a pretty good day!

    • Inconceivable!
      • I was just discussing this movie last night at dinner. We decided this is one of the most quotable movies of all time.

    • When Good Doors Go Bad
      • My room was SO not feng shui.

        attic door

In the last house I lived in with my family back when I was in college, my room had access to one of the attics. I had been in the attic several times and had never had any sort of eerie experience or even heard any strange sounds. My room was arranged so that my bed was right next to the door.

It wasn't until I had gone off to college and started coming home for summer and Christmas vacations when I began having trouble sleeping. I would wake up frequently in the middle of the night feeling freaked out for no reason. I started leaving my television on all night long. Occasionally, I would even stay up all night until the sun started coming up and then go to sleep.

I never realized what it was until I randomly rearranged my room, moving my bed to the opposite wall. Suddenly, I was able to sleep peacefully again.

I still don't understand why the attic door affected me like that--especially since in my new room, again my bed is right next to the attic door. But, the door is pretty small--more like the entrance to the Lollipop Guild.

Why THAT isn't scary, I have no idea. . .

    • The Worst Teacher I Ever Had
      • Mrs. Cater, I'm looking at you.

My first grade teacher in Pennsylvania had my parents worried that I was some sort of child deliquent. My crime? I used to fiddle with my fingers a lot during class. Sometimes I even--gasp--failed to pay attention! She sent me to the principal's office once because I didn't know the answer to a question because I hadn't heard the question. I had been rolling my thumbs around each other.

        I know--why am I not in prison?
