- My Prophetic Dream
-
Dreams are rarely comprehensible, let alone, tell the future. In Biblical times, court magicians and jesters were called upon to interpret the king's dreams. These dreams often foretold of the future, but in modern times, these occurrances rarely happen. Unless it is in a movie. As rare and special as prophetic dreams are, I had one. It was pretty damn nerdy. My dreams and probably the dreams of others, are usually in fragments and aren't fluent. It was three days before my first SAT test. The scene was during the essay process of the test and as cliche as it may be, I didn't finished. The special thing, however, was that I dreamnt the same process three different times of the night. I would wake up after each incident, delirious, not knowing what was reality and what was fake. After waking up and realizing the day has not arrived yet, I would go back to sleep relieved. Unfortunately, it would repeat, repeat, and repeat. So I guess three time's the charm because every Asian's nigthmare came true. I didn't finish the essay.

- The No-Fail Way to Make Me Roll My Eyes
-
When an Asian-American of a middle-class background tells me a story of his grandfather's occupation of "opium-growing", or a story of how his dentist "accidentally" ruined his teeth and wouldn't refund his family, it usually makes my gut wrench and irritates me. Tall tales make my eyes go round. Telling a fabricated story does not make the storyteller anymore interesting and in most cases, shows a glimmer of insecurity. The storyteller thinks his or her life is a bore and feels the need to "stretch the truth" to gain favor in other's eyes. These "tales" may indeed be a ploy in small talk and there is no problem in that. However, when the story starts to step past its boundaries and the storyteller refuses to put the brakes on, it becomes annoying. I am certainly not the judge of judges, and I am not saying that I can always detect a lie. But a dentist ruining your teeth? I'm sure they went to six years of dentistry school for something. You and your five other sixteen year old friends were served sake in a restaurant, just because you were wearing suits for a Model UN trip? Give me a break, let's make the story a little more believable.

- My Favorite Comfort Food
-
Haribo, Trolli, Wonka, Jelly Belly, Mars, and any other candy you can name, I can eat it. The weather, the time of day, or the mood, will never matter because I can eat candy all day, everyday. The origins of my first love was never clear, I just knew growing up I loved candy and I couldn't have enough. My love of candy drove me to many trips to the dentist, an immature incident of theft at the age of six, and the many scoldings from my mother. Gummy candies, a German company called Haribo in particular, complete me, due to the the perfect, chewy, texture there is to it. There is a perfect degree of hardness to it, so it doesn't crumble on the first bite like many other gummies of lesser brands. The candy is not overpowered with sweetness and sugar, which prevents the sickening feeling of excessive eating like other candies such as Skittles or Starbursts. Haribo is the king of the gummy kingdom, and any piece would drive all the sadness away from me. Unfortunately, the purchase of a surplus of Haribo would put a dent in anyone's pocket due to it's higher price, compared to its competitors. But hey, you're paying for the quality.

- My Thoughts on the Death Penalty
-
Hammurabi's Code emphasizes the principle of an "eye for an eye". If
one's cattle was killed by the other, then the same fate will be
enforced upon the other. If one's wife was to be violated by another,
then the same or something of equal punishment will be brought upon
the opposite party. In today's society, if one has murdered another,
then he will unfortunately receive a death penalty. Most say, "He
deserves it, if he is let back into society, he will just do it
again!" This reasoning may be reasonable, and it is indeed sometimes
better to be "safe than sorry." But, everyone deserves a second
chance. From a Christian background, it's all about the second chance.
The foundation of the Christian faith is the second chance given to
the sin-polluted man to redeem themselves and achieve life in good and
God. If we, a people capable of rape, murder, and extortion, were
forgiven, then the murderers deserve a second chance. We'll just keep
them in prison for the rest of their lives.

- Me, as a Teen
-
As my teenage years come to an end, stemming from age thirteen all the way to the last months of my seventeenth year of existence, I look bad and I say, "Wow, that was good." Certainly it has had its ups and downs, but in general, I looked like a happy, gracious, kid. The rough patches came towards the end, due to the transition into becoming a young adult and taking new responsibilities. Yet, in the end, it was enjoyable. Fortunate enough to have good parents that had a stronghold in my life, I was not a brat who grew up to be disrespectful. I was the teenager who may not have received the gifts and fashions my classmates had, but unlike most, I was happy. So if you can take my life out of a book, and look at the teenage Jeremy, you would see someone content and happy with life.
