- Strange Happenings on Public Transit
-
The two times I relied heavily on public transportation to get me where I was going were to go to The Rally to Restore Sanity/Keep Fear Alive and, later on, to attend NYC's Comic Con.
The day of Comic Con, Mikayla, Ruth, and I took a bus to NYC. We also relied on a bus (Greyhound, perhaps) to take us home. It was tough to find 3 seats together, so we split into a group of two partners and one person alone on the way there and on the way home Ruth and Mikayla were in different seats near the front of the bus and I was all the way on the back.
I sat next to a black man with dreadlocks who had three styrofoam containers all full of southern cooking. I saw fried chicken, mashed sweet potatoes, and vegetables as well as various sauces. He got off the bus at one of the first stops, but I will never forget when he offered me a corn muffin.

- What does faith mean to you?
-
I have never been religious. When I went to church as a little kid, I wanted to ask the preacher "Is God the sky or does he just live in the sky?" I didn't see how anyone could have enough eyes to watch everyone all the time, and I didn't see why anyone would want to.
The closest I have come to a spiritual experience is listening to Paul Simon songs.
But not all faith is religion. I've had a lot of friends in my lifetime. A lot of them just kind of come and go, like hot water through my fingers, leaving the kinds of scars behind that make it hard to function. So I've never had much faith in that arena, either.
I listen to other people talk about having faith and following their faith and I've never really sympathized with the feeling before now. But with you, I have faith, because no matter how many times I peel back my layers and show you the crazy that lies beneath, you just keep on coming back for more. So I follow you in faith, and I walk around with my fingers crossed that it won't backfire because I'm not used to this feeling of walking on air like Wile E. Coyote.
