- A Food I Was Surprised to Like
-
I am not the most adventurous in trying new foods, but I use cruises as my avenue of trying new and different foods. It doesn't cost more to try anything and then reorder your meal if you don't care for the flavor or texture of your meal. Escargot is wonderful!! I didn't think I could even venture that taste, but others had ordered it and it smelled good - the garlic odors got me to try it. Yum! Not much different than clams, but saturated in garlic. It has become a regular menu item for me when cruising.
Then I tried crocodile near Australia. Yes the big slithering and snapping things that Crocodile Dundee catches there. It really surprised me. I would have expected it to be tough and of course everything tastes like chicken. Quite to my surprise, it was flaky like salmon, very moist and yes, did taste a little like chicken, but definitely not chicken. I would order it again. It was not tough or chewy as I expected.

- If I Had Grown Up With/Without Siblings
-
I was the eldest child in my family and I had two younger brothers. One whom I adored and one who was my strongest competitor and enemy most of the time. I could honestly say that my parents created the competition and sibling rivalry between the two of us. We were not quite 2 years apart in age and my youngest brother was about 5 1/2 years younger than I.
The sibling rivalry was stirred in every event of life. I was not allowed to get a bike or even learn to ride a bike until my closest brother was old enough to learn. Every event in life seemed to have this edge. As a teenager, I was not allowed to drive by myself, until he could drive us. I was a much better driver. And the saga continued. We even were married less than a month apart. We went to our first movie the same day. Yet, if he did something wrong, I was blamed for it because "I should know better than to have let him do it" or that I should have let someone know if he was doing wrong. I was in just as much trouble as if I had done the deed. Everything we did was compared, and I was usually on the loosing end. I think I would have felt much better about my childhood and being the eldest child had I not had to deal with this type of continual rivalry.
My youngest brother was my pride and joy. We played great together, laughed together and ocassionally ganged up on the middle child. We had a bond that was difficult to sever. If we disagreed, we could solve our own problems.
Today, I still am not close to my middle brother and he lives not far away. He has never visited my house and we maintain contact only because our mom tries to force that issue. My younger brother lives a very long distance away and I seldom am able to see him, yet when I do, we can immediately pick up where we left off. We call each other and definitely enjoy each others families. I can never remember a time when we didn't get along!
When my children were born, I swore I would do nothing to compare them and pit them against each other. They are now the best of friends. Growing up, there was only about 4 months of sibling rivalry and the intensity of it was quite mild. That was one issue I really didn't have to deal with as a parent. I was so thrilled.
Through this, I learned that we can teach children that they are different than each other and that they each have different strengths and weaknesses. They learned to ask each other for help in the areas where they were weak and willingly gave in their strengths. They would do anything for each other and they now live on two different continents and maintain continual communication. I believe my negative experience compared with my positive experience with my siblings made me a better parent.

- My Ideal Saturday Night
-
I need to dream on to find my ideal Saturday night. I would want to spend the evening with the one I love, out on the town at an event or even at home, just to spend the time with the one I cherish. I am a simple soul and am satisfied with a good movie, good laughs, a good discussion, sharing dreams, life stories, popcorn, a glass of wine.... the simple things of life.
Until I find that person, I have to be satisfied being home doing the things I enjoy and finding a girlfriend to do somewhere with for a few house. Tonight was visiting outdoors with neighbors and Plinky. Good night saturday.

- My Favorite Month is July and July
-
June and July are my favorite months. I need sunshine in my life, but like the ideal days of low 70's to 80's for temperature. It is green, relatively cool. When I was a teacher, it meant sleeping in, no paper grading, no students, no lesson plans. I was free as a bird for six to eight weeks. I was also able to spend full days with my kids. Times have changed, no longer teaching and kids on their own, but still love June and July. I love strawberries and oh are they ever good in June, and the peaches start in July!! The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays - of course the picnics and BBQ's, but it is the fireworks that thrill me!!

- My Role Model, My Dad
-
Emulating my dad is tough and I certainly am not able to fill his shoes. My dad was brilliant, loving, kind and never met a stranger. He was successful at whatever he undertook. He had high expectations for himself and for his family. He always stood his ground on his beliefs and value and I never saw him cave to anyone else, yet he did not ridicule, ignore or belittle that person. He was a great role model. As a child he seemed tough, and perhaps his WWII experiences had put that edge on him, yet he seemed to grow softer as years progressed. My dad had a great affect on my life, but on YOURS as well. He was a heavily decorated war vetern, but he become a well renowned researcher that has helped to change the course of all of our lives. If you have a beating heart, he affected your life too.
