double chocolate cake
When I was ten years old, my step-father brought me to a nice restaurant for Valentine's Day. He always was sure to make a big deal out of this particular holiday; every year I received a beautiful card and a special treat. It was his way of showing me he was an integral part of my life, although he was not my biological father. On this specific occasion, my treat was a chocolate cake. This was the last Valentine's Day we shared together, because right after this, he was diagnosed with cancer. I will never forget his "zest" for life, and the special bond we formed through little moments--such as eating chocolate cake. Whenever I have a piece now, I think of him.
