If I were a superhero, I'd be all about the tights. I'd nail down opponents with sick moves that real-me wishes to obtain someday, and grab the white-girl-2nd-soprano version of Tracie Thoms' vocal skills. Now, keeping in mind that I generally stick to small shows, Xtreme Wheels Skate Park is probably my favorite venue (aside from Kleinhans for Philharmonic shows). Simply because half of it is a stage, and another fenced off half has nothing but ramps. Quite often, band members will tease the skaters or ask them to do tricks.

It's just a fun place to be, I guess.

With the exception of seventh grade, I've always been pretty fortunate in the way of teachers. Mine are usually carefree and funny, and usually beat what I need to know into my brain so that I could ace a test in my sleep.

But I can really only call two of my teachers my "favorites".

Mr. Dobmeier and Mr. McLoughlin.

Going in chronological order, Mr. McLoughlin was my eighth grade social studies teacher. Though I didn't always agree with his and Mrs. Davis' class rules, procedures, principles, whatever, he ended up striking me as a hard-working family man. When I panicked over WWII material (heh, anxiety), he tried to work with me discreetly and handed me a book to read during gory videos. Plus, he let us prank him all the time. We decorated his room pink and put up Red Sox posters EVERYWHERE (he was a diehard Yankees fan). I just have pleasant memories from his class.

Mr. Dobmeier, now, was probably the funniest, most sarcastic teacher I have ever had. He openly insulted students (mind, this was an Honors class, so this kind of student/teacher interaction is generally acceptable), and didn't do silly things like assign seats. He was fair, and creative in his projects. I never came out of his class in a bad mood. Why would you, when a teacher openly calls a character from an ancient novel a 'hussy' and nicknames your entire class 'my turkeys'? Seriously.

I don't have the same expectations for my future teachers, but it'd be nice to have repeats of these two.

Gaming has sort of been in my family (read as: step-father and myself) as a way to pass the time when we're not working on something big. Unlike Papi over here in the next room though, who simply plays PC games, I am more of a PS2/N64/MMO kind of girl.

MMOs are the big addiction, unfortunately. I have over $200 worth of gPotato and Nexon cash lying on my desk, and hundreds of hours poured into making my character the best it could possibly be... something that's not quite completed on any game I've played (this includes Flyff, Fiesta, Luna Online, and Mabinogi).

A lot of people associate gamers with things like obesity (check) and bad skin (sort-of check) and lack of social skills (only on very little sleep), but in all honesty, not many people are like that! Some, yes, but not many.

In my defense, it's a vacation-only thing and is put off completely during school time. I would never dream of gaming instead of putting my effort into something that could, and will, affect the remainder of my life! Plus, it's just fun. I can't take little pixel people seriously.

By nature, I'm a bit of an observer. I like to see how things function and how they change, the way they react to things out of the norm. It's quite shocking that I don't want to be a scientist, really.

When I was assigned 'Feed' for a summer reading, I was excited but a bit skeptical. Books that emphasize the dangers of technology and how it can invade your very being tend to overdo it sometimes, and I was curious if this was perhaps one of those books.

At first, I was a little disappointed. It seemed to just be following a futuristic teenage romance between two kids who had met in a bit of a strange setting and like to cause a bit of mayhem with the system (read as: a chip installed in their brains that gives them pop-up ads). As the book's events rose, though, I saw something in the characters that was a bit more raw and real than I expected, and looking past all the made-up slang, I really enjoyed it.

Now, why was it helpful?
I don't really know, but after reading it, I sort of gained hope for the human race. Sort of. I recommend it.

My family tends to decide to tell me that I am the oldest child when I am not.

I have an older step-brother living in Denver, and younger half-brother here at home with me. I'm a sophomore in high school. As much as my family tries to convince me that I am the oldest child, and therefore the most responsible, I find myself denying that fact and reinforcing the fact that I indeed am the middle of three.

It's quite a pain, I think, to be in the middle. You're never as good as the oldest and all the attention is always at the youngest (and even though I used to deny caring about getting attention, I must admit that when all my awards and achievements as an honors student, artist, musician, and writer go unnoticed compared to my brother learning how to say a few new words, it's a pain in my rear end). As much as I hate to admit it, it's made me a sulky person at home, and I'm generally cranky towards my family. It's not nice of me, but I can't help it if I think they don't care.

(They do, really, but I'm a teenager and my brain tricks me into thinking that sometimes.)

On the bright side, I'm quite independent and capable of making some decisions for myself. I don't really "discuss" things anymore- just the other day I announced that I'm planning to go to college in North Carolina! I was also able to successfully maintain a house, a dog, and a fish on my own, unannounced, for two days when my mom had to go to the hospital with my brother. It was quite the accomplishment~

I did like being an only child before my mom got remarried, but... what can I do, right?

(Besides, my brother's okay when he doesn't bother me.)

I stay away from horror films in general, so I can't even say that many have scared me (then again, since seeing Harry Potter last night, I've been brainwashed). Still, I've been haunting the theaters lately, and the previews for YET ANOTHER doomsday movie, '2012', are looking freakier daily.

It might be just me, with my constant fears of death and afterlife and all, well, doomsday things, but this movie looks all too real (with today's graphics and all). Plus, 2012 is the year I graduate high school. Do I really want the world to end a few months into college? No. No, I don't.

Actually, typing this is on the verge of giving me a panic attack. Excuse me while I return to cleaning my house.

I'm really skeptical about picking items that completely represent my life in 2009. Being such a busy and thinly-spread person, my time capsule would be... pretty much absolutely obese. Keeping memories is probably the most important thing I have in this very tangible world, what with my persisting fear of death.

Artsy Stuff.
So a lot of my moods are reflected more so in my sketchbook than anything else, with my wee little scribblins. I think it'd be good to remind myself about my art and how I put myself down all the time, thinking I wasn't improving (and then, upon looking back, realizing that I was). This would also be an homage to my obsession with Prismacolor pencils, and I would probably shove a data CD in with the better parts of my digital portfolio. And, maybe, if I felt particularly nostalgic, I would place a few of my school art projects in there. Even if they do leave a bad taste in my mouth sometimes.

Music Stuff.
Another strong, strong passion of mine is music, so naturally some of that would go into my capsule. Perhaps a picture of me with my violin (endeared further to me by the name, 'Baby') or a few of the hairs from my bow. Also, I wouldn't mind making photocopies of some of my orchestra music, or purchasing some extra Suzuki books to use as mementos of what I worked on during the hot summer months. And, for the hell of it, why not toss in a chromatic tuner!

Though, while we're on the topic of music, I don't suppose that tossing in a Copeland CD would be a bad idea. Maybe my other two favorite bands (Anberlin and the Decemberists, in no particular order) would have to lie in there for forty years as well, and an iTunes track listing.

Lit Stuff.
I love, love, love reading. There would definitely be a nice stack of books in my time capsule- what I consider the best and the worst. The Twilight Series would be one of the first things in there, and hopefully coating the bottom of my capsule, just so I can laugh at my blatant distaste for the series past the initial nostalgia. Otherwise, I may be compelled to reread them. Jones' original Howl's Moving Castle novels would be one of the first books I'd consider for a more positive image of my reading list, as well as Artemis Fowl.

On a more creative level, my orange writing notebook from last year. That would DEFINITELY go there. Mayhaps even a few copies of the school newspaper. I do that too.

Report Cards.
Simply a memento to how much I dedicated (or sometimes, didn't dedicate) to school work, and how much I stressed over it.

Personal Mementos.
My 'memorabilia folders,' photo albums, my diaries, a letter to myself with my hopes and aspirations at the time being, my frustrations, likes, dislikes. Maybe some photographs of things too precious (as well as illegal, or simply impossible) for a time capsule, like the necklace I have left from my deceased grandfather or pictures of my friends. A few of my daily to-do lists, some letters from my friends, postcards.

A BESSFRAN Must Add Some Flava, Yo.

Add Some Flava, Yo.
I am a person who likes a lot of variety in their life. I've been playing the violin for five years, and next year, just for the hell of it, I'm switching to the viola (and then back to my violin, but hey!). I can't work on something too long or I'll get sick of it. That kinda stuff! And, to follow that example, I need people who have different personalities than me who I can spend a lot of time with without getting sick of them.

My best friend (and cousin, actually) lacks my sarcastic charm, is hyper nearly all the time, and doesn't shut up about... boys. Another good friend of mine has nothing of the ideal romantic situations I dream of (I grew up on Disney, come on now), instead replacing them with dream-crushing realism. We've got another health nut on board who understands nothing of the WWOMMO!

(The Wonderful World of MMOs).

So, clearly, it's good for me to have friends that vary from myself. I mean, I do look for some common qualities like honesty and respect, but if you're good enough friends, you shouldn't really even worry about those!

Give the gymnasts some credit.

I was honestly, genuinely disappointed when I heard a few of my friends talking about how one of our soon-to-be underclassmen (it freaks me out to think I won't be a freshman come September) is probably one of the only male gymnastics students in the school.

Being a Russian immigrant, I remember sitting at home with grandma when I was little and watching really bad Spanish soap operas, kids' shows, or gymnastics events. Gymnastics (and ice skating, even) were really big, if I remember correctly, but after moving to the USA, I barely hear about it. Looking at sports like dance, ice skating, and even cheerleading, a lot of the more successful athletes in those fields were once (or still are) gymnasts.

Gymnastics requires a lot of endurance, strength, and flexibility (as well as dedication, and God knows what else), and is probably one of the most under appreciated sports I know of. It's graceful, beautiful, and really shows just what the human body is capable of doing! I honestly do miss spending hours oogling the TV and wishing I could do all of those things.

 Well.
Lunch at my school (sorry that the map fails to get specific) is pretty much a multi-ethnic rhythm fest. We've got the gangsta boiiz banging some ... sweet-ass beats on the lunch tables, then we've got the hardcore musicians in there with their guitars sometimes, and watching the back group playing hacky-sack is always fun. Plus, my table sometimes enjoys some Bumblebee Games and definitely some BS or Go Fish or Rummy.
Then you've got the disapproving guardians, or my Geometry teacher (God bless Mr. V) who just like, chills with kids and makes funny jokes at them. I don't like my school sometimes, but I'm definitely gonna miss lunch next year when I'll be in Art instead. :C

I just enjoy coming home to our downstairs couch and taking a nap, or, if sleep isn't an option, generally playing my violin gets me cool. But only if it's a song I know, otherwise I get really frustrated.

Packaged ramen noodles make a great meal for those of us who are broke, and for those of us who can't cook. I fall into both categories.
