- The Soundtrack for Summer, that is Obliquely About Summer: Rush - Freewill, Judas Priest - Living After Midnight, and ZZ Top - Cheap Sunglasses
-
The message, while intellectual, is the key to summer fun. "I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose free will." Summer fun is about freedom and choice.
Plus, the insane guitar solo by Alex Lifeson doesn't hurt.Living After Midnight by Judas Priest
"Living after midnight, rockin to the dawn
Lovin' til the morning, then I'm gone, I'm gone"
That is summer love. Summer friends. Summer itself. It is here, it is great, and then it is gone and it's a memory.
PS- LAM >>> Kiss's Rock and Roll All Night... No. Really.Cheap sunglasses >>> designer shades. And if it's summer, you gotta have shades. They can be a headache remedy ("when the light is hurt your head"). They can be an aphrodisiac ("but what really knocked me out..."). They can be a disguise ("With the glass so dark, they won't even know your name.") And best of all, they are cheap.

- My Supergroup, featuring guys who have all been in Supergroups, their name, The SuperGroup: Steve Vai, Chris Cornell, Chad Smith and Kip Winger!
-
Chris Cornell
He's on my mind after writing about Black Hole Sun today on Facebook. He's done two supergroups before, and he's a pretty damn good vocalist.
Kip Winger
Under appreciated bassist, great musician, and really, if he's still in musical shape, the core of this band. Since I think the rhythm section is really the key to group success, I think you have to have stars at the bass and drums position. Only those folks aren't just hanging around looking for work. Which might be why most supergroups fail in the first place. Lack of great bassists and drummers. People don't kick great drummers or bassists out of bands.
Chad Smith
I don't know why this guy isn't in the Chili Peppers anymore, but since he's currently in Chickenfoot, and I find myself into chickenfoot, in spite of the presence of Sammy Hagar (the Horrible), I have to give props to Chad, Michael Anthony and Satch.
Chad was probably the best drummer who was ever in the rotating drum lineup of the peppers. Definitely works here. Plus, he's already been in a super group, so he probably knows the territory. Probably doesn't bring a lot of bad habits, either.
Steve Vai
First off, I like the technical guitarists with high production value. And they are all kind of freelance, save Petrucci and a few lesser lights. So, the question is, Malmsteen (who I think would work terribly in a supergroup that wasn't his idea first), Eric Johnson, Satriani or Vai. Since all three were on Satch's G3 tour at one point or another, they can all play nice in a group of stars. Since Satch is currently making Chickenfoot workable, that'd seem to go is his favor. But, let's make the case for Vai. Experience? Well, there was the David Lee Roth band with DLR, Billy Sheehan and Greg Bisonette. Oh, and his work with Frank Zappa. And Whitesnake. Yes, actually, I give the supergroup edge to Vai. And, as I get older, I am growing to prefer Vai over Satch anyway.

- When I was broke, I lived on: Bricks of Ramen, Store Brand Mac & Cheese and Rice.
-
Maruchan Ramen, Pork flavor.
Lemme get this straight. You get a hot, filling meal from tap water, a wee bit of gas to boil it, and something between a dime and a quarter. It comes in a dozen flavors, so it doesn't exactly get old. You can add stuff to it, like slices of ham, or pepperoni chips or even an egg or some veggies. You can even make it in a coffee maker if you don't have a pot and a stove.
I do not eat cheap ramen anymore. I don't eat a lot of carbs so I am just not into this. If I am on a carb binge or on vacation, I might go out and get the real deal, rather than the ersatz version, but really, I'm a little past being this broke now and the carbs.
I have a brick ramen tip for you: Add the powder to the water before the noodles, and boil it up with the powder in the water. This will flavor the noodles better than the directions on the package (boil water with noodles, when noodles are soft, stir in flavor).
Second runner up: store brand macaroni and cheese. Not the Kraft brand, I'm talking the store brand. It's the same thing, only 1/3rd to 1/4th the price. A few tips here: 1- add some cheese to your mix. An ounce of actual cheddar, regardless of quality, improves the Hell out of the product, in terms of taste and texture. 2- For richer sauce, use cream instead of milk. For a richer sauce on the cheap, no milk, double butter. An egg yolk works well for richness as well, if you are careful. 3- A little protein goes nicely here. Some ham or those seasoned chicken strips. We're getting out of poverty territory here, but still.
Third: Rice. With cheese or ham or soy sauce or whatever. Fry it with an egg and some bouillon.
