    • When Paying Top Dollar Pays Off
      • I don't covet a thousand-dollar Louis Vuitton bag, a limited-collection pair of Jimmy Choos or a larger-than-life penthouse. However, when it comes to splurging on a great live music experience, I seldom think twice.

I hope to see Wir sind Helden, Justin Timberlake, U2, Take That and Spice Girls (if they reunite yet again) perform live before I die.

    • Where I Go for News
      • cover picture with quadriga by Sascha Schuermann -- news-magazine DER SPIEGEL (26.01.09)

These days I get my dose of news mostly from magazines such as Focus and Der Spiegel. I try to kill two birds with one stone that way - keeping abreast with current affairs and expanding my German vocabulary at the same time.

I also keep tabs on the latest scoop through the RSS feeds on my blog - Channel NewsAsia, BBC, Le Monde and Deutsche Welle. I only read a full article when the headline catches my eye, though.

I'm really awful with newspapers - I skip most of the "real" news in them and flip to the lifestyle and entertainment sections right away. I'm equally terrible with catching up with news on TV, mainly because I channel-surf a lot.

    • My Favourite Museums
      • I have 2 so far: The National Portrait Gallery in London and the Mucha Museum in Prague.

The National Portrait Gallery houses portraits of prominent British personalities, from the Brontë sisters to Daniel Radcliffe. It's huge and I easily spent hours sauntering the rooms. What I remember most from the gallery, though, are the four prints of Blur members. The modern clean lines and bright colours appealed to me. Besides, isn't the band just quintessentially British?

The Mucha Museum is, in comparison, much smaller, but in no way less interesting. Absolutely love the art nouveau posters that adorn its walls, especially those belonging to the Seasons and Arts series. Print advertisements in their curvy best.

    • An Author I'd Like To Have Lunch With
      • Study Break

I'd sayyy... Helen Fielding! She simply comes up with the most brilliant things, like Olivia Joules' Rules for Living:

        1. Never panic. Stop, breathe, think.

        2. No one is thinking about you. They're thinking about themselves, just like you.

        3. Never change haircut or color before an important event.

        4. Nothing is either as bad or good as it seems.

        5. Do as you would be done by, e.g. thou shalt not kill.

        6. It is better to buy one expensive thing that you really like than several cheap ones that you only quite like.

        7. Hardly anything matters: if you get upset, ask yourself, "Does it really matter?"

        8. The key to success lies in how you pick yourself up from failure.

        9. Be honest and kind.

        10. Only buy clothes that make you feel like doing a small dance.

        11. Trust your instincts, not your overactive imagination.

        12. When overwhelmed by disaster, check if it's really a disaster by doing the following:
        (a) think, "Oh, fuck it,"
        (b) look on the bright side, and if that doesn't work, look on the funny side.

If neither of the above works then maybe it is a disaster so turn to items 1 and 4.

        13. Don't expect the world to be safe or life to be fair.

        14. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

        15. Don’t regret anything. Remember there wasn’t anything else that could have happened, given who you were and the state of the world at that moment. The only thing you can change is the present, so learn from the past.

        16. If you start regretting something and thinking, “I should have done…” always add, “but then I might have been run over by a lorry or blown up by a Japanese-manned torpedo.

How could one not wanna have lunch with her?
